What had been a project to keep his hands busy and get his comlink to work again (yes, Ender had told him it wouldn't contact anyone. Ben was a Skywalker and was therefore convinced that if he just fiddled with something and/or smacked it hard enough (Han's influence) he could do it anyway) had become, as the anniversary of his mother's death

It was not the best possible moment for Ender to step into the room, as he was met by the sight of electronics shattering; he raised his arm instictively to keep any ricocheting metal from striking him. (Not that any of it sprayed directly at him.)

Ben stopped himself (barely) from snapping about being interrupted when he saw who it was.

"Sorry," he muttered. "It didn't work."

Ender crossed his arms and sighed. Then he walked across the room until he reached Ben, and sat down next to him.
