Room 204 [early afternoon]

Ben hadn't exactly slept in a week, and adding that stress to a healthy dose of getting his ass kicked by a minotaur and a few uncomfortable reminders that gravity worked, he'd passed out on his bed and slept for a solid 16 hours ( Read more... )

Ender had come back from the rooftop early in the morning, but he had found Ben still asleep, and so he'd returned to the cold roof. Rubbing at his arms, feeling very tired, and very beaten.

But by noon, he was back - or thereabouts - and he slipped into the room with a light, "Ho," before sitting down on his bed.

"I woke up and you weren't here," Ben noted. "I'm beginning to think I need to install a tracking device in you."

He was only half kidding.

"Oh good," Ender said, sarcastically, "You can put it next to the IF's."

Ben gave him a tiny smile. "You worried me."

That was a vast understatement.

Karla was feeling...a little unsettled, honestly. She was glad to be back, she wanted to know her the boyos were okay, she was a little upset that Ben was on the long list of people who hadn't ended up rescuing her, was mad at herself for both needing to be rescued and for caring so much about who did it, wanted to give Ender a hug and then shake him for not coming with them...Needed reassurance they both still cared, after the mind-whammy in the oubliette.

She was just a whole mess of ugly and conflicting emotions that she was trying very hard to keep shielded. Hopefully between the shield and the still-present bruises from the fight with the fairies, that would be enough to keep Jedi empaths and overly-observant males from noticing much else.

Maybe she could convince them that it was a good idea to play cradle for a few hours this afternoon. That would teach them.

"Kiss kiss," she called softly through the door.

"There you are," Ben said, not bothering to hide the relief in his voice as he got up off the floor and stalked over to her.

She was getting the stuffing hugged out of her, and would just have to deal with it.

You know, that hug? That went a long way towards making Karla feel better about everything.

"Here I am," she said quietly, hugging him back just as hard. "Missed me?"

"Like crazy," he said. "It wasn't a great moment for me when I got to where Ender was and you weren't there too."
