Dylan doesn't catch the senate hearing live. It's aired on all the major news networks, but he's in class taking his finals during it. By the time he gets home and pulls up the highlights, he is kind of glad he missed it live. The government wants the Iron Man suit technology. Okay, they want the suit itself, but they want the technology as well. Dylan shudders at the thought.
Truth be told, he's not sure he's really thrilled that Tony has the suit. It's not that he doesn't trust that Tony has the best of intentions with it, but it's a lot of power for one person. The idea that it could fall into the wrong hands makes him uneasy. The idea that an army of them could be built and ready for combat makes him sick.
Tony makes him headdesk a little with the way he answers the questions. Senator Stern is a dick, sure, but Tony is being pretty damn obnoxious. It's a charming kind of obnoxious, but it's still obnoxious.
The Senate's expert on weapons fits right in with the obnoxious theme. Dylan isn't impressed by Hammer's theatrics any more than he's impressed by the pissing contest going on onscreen. It's all so ridiculous. Men and their weapons. So ridiculous.
What surprises him is when his uncle shows up. Rhodey hadn't mentioned that he was going to be at the hearing when he was over for dinner. From the way Tony reacts on the video, he wasn't given a heads up either. It's probably because of national security that Rhodey kept it quiet, but Dylan can't help but wonder if it was more than that. Because the things in his report aren't exactly things that Tony wants to hear.
Dylan has a feeling what happened after the hearing was even more intense than the exchange the world got to see on camera. He's not really sure what to think about any of it. At least Tony wasn't handing over the suit. That was good.
He looks at his phone and debates if he should call or leave it be. He's not sure which of them he should call, or if he should contact both of them. Maybe neither of them.
One thing he's sure of, he's glad he wasn't there at the hearing, or on the flight back.
Awkward.
He realizes, quickly, the one he feels the worst for is Pepper.
Seriously awkward position to be in.
Texting his dad, he sends the following message: Saw the hearing. You alright?
To his uncle he sends: Saw the hearing. You alright?
No one said he had to be original with his messages.
It's to Pepper that he sends something different. Saw the hearing. I hope they didn't drive you too crazy after it.
