As if this month was chaotic enough, I have jury duty.

*sighs*

On the plus side, I'm on a stand-by list where I have to call in to find out if I'm needed or not. Beats going down there in rush hour and waiting around in the courthouse with complete strangers. Oy.

Here's how you get out of criminal jury duty. When they ask if any of you has a reason why you shouldn't serve, you raise your hand, and:

"They arrested him, didn't they? Anyway, he looks Hispanic [black, Irish, Chinese]."

I once got out of one when asked if I would mind if the defendant didn't testify, I said yes, I would mind and when queried further, I said that I would wonder what exactly he was hiding. After that, more people began to answer that way and the judge had to throw the lot of us out for being 'too hostile.'

Actually, that is a very honest/ candid answer. I admit that there are some rules I'd have trouble following as a juror -- have never served, by the way, just because they just never empanel me -- such as the one you cited.
