Chapter 17
Adelle woke up with a sudden jolt. As she opened her lids, there was a face placed just inches above hers. She was about to scream when Aveline covered her mouth and laughed. With some fake annoyance, Adelle pushed her cousin’s hand away from her mouth.
“That wasn’t funny. You almost gave me a heart attack. What would have happened if I had gotten a stroke all because of your face?” A playful smirk tugged at Adelle’s mouth as she subtly insulted Aveline’s face. When Adelle stood up to make her side of the queen-sized bed, her head was struck by a pillow. She turned around and found Aveline laughing once more. Adelle inched dangerously toward her cousin and was about to pounce on them when the door sprung wide open and William’s head poked in.
“Mei, mom asked if you guys are up yet…Adelle, what are you doing?” His face looked confused as he saw Adelle towering over Aveline with the latter cowering in fear. Adelle gracefully composed herself and ignored William’s question.
“Ge! Don’t you ever knock? What if we were changing?” William opened the door wider and dismissed this with a wave of a hand.
“Shush, I don’t have time for your pre-teen concerns.”
“EXCUSE US? WE’RE NOT PRE-TEENS!!!! We’re nineteen for goodness sakes!!!!” Again William replied with an exasperating gesture of dismissal of the hand.
“That’s not important right now… what’s important is mom asked me to ask whether you’re up or not… and seeing that you both are, she asks me also to tell you to go down for breakfast.” Adelle looked at the time. It was only 8 o’clock in the morning.
“You guys have breakfast this early!?! Come to think of it, William ge, you’re usually not up until like at least 4 hours from now. And not only are you up, you’re looking… presentable.” Adelle was shocked.
“YEAH!!! And you smell good too,” Aveline added. She squinted in suspicion, “Are you going on a date with your girlfriend?” William stuck out his tongue.
“He has a girlfriend!?!?!” Adelle exclaimed. “How? He’s been with us in the US the whole time.”
“Our very questions exactly… but he wouldn’t tell…” Then Adelle and Aveline entered a heated discussion about this matter.
“Hey hey! I’m still here you know?” Getting no response, he said,” Fine, I’ll eat your share of breakfast!” With this Adelle simply turned her head towards him,
“You wouldn’t do that. What if you get fat? Or worse, you become so full that you wouldn’t be able to eat on your date. And then she’s going to think that you don’t like her.” William tried to open his mouth to respond but was unable to come up with a retort. He pointed toward the two of them while glaring dangerously as he slowly closed the door. The girls laughed. This kind of laid-back atmosphere was what she missed the most about her stay in Korea. She was just about to talk to Aveline about the Dong Bang boys when a knock on the door was heard and this time, the door opened to reveal two poking heads.
“Mei, mom told us to tell you to get down for breakfast.” Phillip said. Aveline rolled her eyes.
“How many people did mom ask to tell us this? Well… at least you knocked first. Thanks ge, we’ll get down after we change and all that.”
“Oh hey, Mei, what’s up with William?” Nathan asked. “He’s awake early and he smells good too. Is there something wrong?”
“Yes… after all that online chatting, he’s finally going on a proper date.” Both Nathan and Phillip gasped simultaneously, making the two girls laugh.
“I know… he’s totally stepping over you guys. This is why you should find girlfriends too. Then you can get married and have kids and we can play with them.” The guys winced.
“One, us getting married is not for your pleasure,” Phillip retorted, followed by Nathan. “Two, babies are people, not toys,” the younger man stated, imitating Bruce the shark from “Finding Nemo.” The girls chuckled. “Well, anyways, mom says that she’s making a special dinner or something tonight. So we’re all supposed to come home early tonight. You two can use the driver to go… wherever it is you girls go; a DBSK store or something.” Phillip winked.
“Okay… thanks. Now go to work before you’re late and let us change.” Then the both of them went into the room to hug and kiss both girls on the head, lingering a little bit longer with Adelle. They waved to the girls and closed the door.
“Change quick! Before another one comes in!” They managed to get out of the clothes in 2 minutes, a house record. True to Aveline’s words, another knock soon followed, with Aveline parents opening the door.
“Oh good, you’re up. I told your brothers to come and get you but apparently they’re useless so we got you ourselves,” Aveline’s mom chirped happily.
“Morning Auntie, morning Uncle,” greeted Adelle smiling.
“How’re you doing today, dear?”
“Good, thanks. I’m starving though. I didn’t manage to grab dinner last night.” Aveline’s parents continued smiling. They came into the room and hugged the girls, placing a kiss on their heads, not so different from the two brothers.
“Well, we’re going to go to work right now, but breakfast is all ready downstairs waiting for you. If you want seconds, Adelle, you go ahead. I’ve made plenty,” Aveline’s mom kindly smiled at the older girl, who smiled gratefully in return nodding her thanks. As they were about to leave the room, Aveline’s dad turned around,
“Oh yeah, I’m driving myself to the office today, so you can use Jim and the other car, alright?” The girls nodded and waved the two adults goodbye. Aveline sighed.
“Do they come in like that every morning?” Adelle asked
“Umm… my parents do, but my brothers, sometimes. This is actually the first time that all of them did,” stated Aveline nonchalantly. Then it hit Adelle. They came up not to tell them to have breakfast, they came up to check up on her. She grinned widely as she stood and pulled the younger one to the bathroom to wash their face. Then they descended down the stairs to the dining room where an array of breakfast waited for them.
