Chapter 12
Having been accustomed to the fact that DBSK had to survive with little or no sleep every night, Jaejoong woke up early that morning to find that he was warm and comfortable. The next thing he noticed was that he was evidently not in his bedroom. Therefore, instead of waking up and seeing Changmin’s sleeping form in front of him, he was blinded by the sun that shone brightly upon him. He smiled contentedly, wondering why the sunlight bothered Changmin so much.
It was at that instant that he felt something stirring against his abdomen. He moved his gaze down and had to cover his mouth with both hands in order to keep a cry of surprise from escaping his lips. Aveline was still sleeping, wrapping her arms around his stomach with her face resting peacefully against his belly and her body straddling his hips. He was incredulous that she had been using him as a body pillow. Not that he particularly minded, of course. Apparently, during the night, Jaejoong fell over to the side of the couch, his head on the armrest. Aveline, who had been resting her head against his shoulder soon followed suit and ended up on top of Jaejoong. It was then that she decided his body made a comfortable pillow for her and wrapped her arm possessively around him.
In the course of their sleep, Aveline knocked off the blankets and her night robe was now hanging loosely against her body. Jaejoong blushed; his hands still clamped around his mouth and moved his face as far away as possible to calm himself.
Once again, Aveline stirred, causing Jaejoong to bite his knuckles in desperation. He was too fully aware of the way her body positioned itself against his and currently debated whether he should wake her up or resumed his place as her pillow. He did not know how long he could keep it up when Aveline started to squirm in her sleep, murmuring intelligible words and moaning once in awhile. Jaejoong thought he was going crazy.
He nudged her lightly. She brushed him away and tightened her grip on his body. He let out a small squeal and tried again, this time not so lightly. He wanted her to be awake before she was woken up by a certain body part of his.
He shook her rather violently this time. Aveline groaned in protest but finally opened her lids, squinting under the bright sunlight. She looked up, saw Jaejoong’s face and muttered a soft “good morning.”
“Morning, sleepy head. We ended up sleeping on top of the roof instead. We should get down now. The others might get worried when they wake up and find both of us gone.” Aveline yawned and nodded lightly.
“Five more minutes…” Then, as she was about to lower her head back down on her “pillow” she realized the awkward position they were both in and screamed. Jaejoong plugged his two index fingers in his ears. Aveline tightened her robe hastily against her body, her face comparable to a ripened tomato. Seeing her embarrassed, Jaejoong smirked in contentment at the situation reversal. At least when he was embarrassed, Aveline was still asleep. This time, he was awake to witness her discomfort and needless to say, it amused him greatly.
“What’s wrong?” Jaejoong asked, masking his amusement.
“Umm, nothing…How long were we stuck like that?” Aveline could not face him.
“Like what?” Aveline felt the temperature in her face rise even more and gestured to the couch awkwardly. “Oh, that! I don’t know, maybe the whole night. I woke up this morning and found you squeezing the air out of me. Was I that comfortable?”
Aveline flinched. Jaejoong grinned victoriously. He now had his poker face on, his preceding mortification gone and his taunting mode taking its place. “Why didn’t you wake me up earlier or something?”
“I tried, but you just ignored me and just hugged me even tighter.”
“Oh…” Aveline looked away. “Maybe we should go down now before the others think that there is something going on.” She then glanced at Jaejoong, in need of confirmation that indeed nothing had happened during that night.
“Yeah, wouldn’t want them to misunderstand the completely innocent situation.” Aveline sighed in relief. “Although… were you dreaming about something in your sleep? Because I keep hearing you moan and you were shifting continuously.” Aveline fanned herself. She indeed had been dreaming about something… and that something was currently sprawled on the couch in front of her.
However, as soon as she was able to, she stared into his eyes dead on. “Yea, I did. I dreamt that I was eating ice cream.” Jaejoong squinted his eyes in disbelief.
“I see… and you were shifting because…”
“My brother was trying to get it from me. I had to keep moving and shifting my position.” Aveline decided that the argument has gone on long enough. “Enough talking about that. We should head down now. Isn’t the commercial shoot today?”
Jaejoong nodded, grabbing Aveline’s hand, half dragging her, and headed down to the apartment, his heart swelling in glee.
When they arrived back to the apartment, they found the lights off with no signs of movements. They agreed to keep this little escapade as a secret and tried to return to their respective beds as if nothing had happened. However, the boys’ bedroom door suddenly opened, revealing a yawning Yunho. The leader froze in mid-yawn when he saw Jaejoong and Aveline in the living room, already awake.
Looking like two deer caught in the headlights, the two stretched their arms in the air and yawned simultaneously. “Isn’t it amazing that the two of us woke up at the same time, Aveline-sshi?” Aveline sighed in relief and followed his lead.
“Yeah… what a coincidence. Well, if you gentlemen don’t mind, I’m going to go to the bathroom now.” She walked as calmly as possible to the bathroom and when she was out of the guys’ range of vision, she ran inside and locked the door. She looked around and took a deep breath. She caught sight of a nice bottle of shampoo and wondered whose it was before lathering her hair in the strawberry-scented liquid.
An hour later, all seven of them were seated nicely around the dining table eating the wonderful breakfast that Jaejoong had prepared. He was surprisingly perky this morning. The other boys did not question it, however, in fear that their oldest hyung might remember what he had said the night before about not making them breakfast. Whatever happened that early morning in the Dong Bang house must have improved his mood. And they have a pretty good idea what, or rather, who, caused it. Throughout breakfast, the other four members stole glances at Aveline who did not say much all morning.
“Why are you guys staring at my cousin like that?” Adelle frowned. Aveline, who hadn’t noticed anything and was nibbling on her rice, finally lifted her gaze. She looked at each of them before finally looking down again before her eyes reached Jaejoong’s. Junsu, Yoochun, Yunho, and Changmin exchanged brief smirks before chuckling to themselves.
Adelle was not about to let it go when Yunho’s cell phone rang.
“Yoboseyo? araseo.” He flipped the phone shut and addressed other six. “That’s the manager. He told us that he’s already waiting downstairs. We should go.” Chaos ensued as each member finished a last minute brush-ups before leaving.
“AH! We forgot something.” Changmin declared with his finger pointed up at the air. The others stopped mid-track and stared at him with a what-is-he-up-to-now look. The youth pointed at the two girls. “They’re wearing girl clothes.”
“Well…if you haven’t noticed yet, Changmin-ah, we ARE girls.” Adelle countered rather saucily, feeling challenged.
“No... that’s not what he meant. Changmin is right. If the fans see that there are two pretty girls living in our apartment, they will freak out… and you guys could be in mortal danger.” Yoochun added, complete with mortification plastered all over his face. Junsu nodded beside him.
“So does that mean that these whole two weeks we have to dress up as guys?” Adelle squinted at them incredulously.
“Well, that depends. Do you wanna die?” Upon hearing this, Aveline spat out the orange juice she had in her mouth onto Yunho, who groaned. Aveline bowed apologetically.
“But we don’t have guy clothes.” Adelle stated triumphantly.
“You can wear ours.” Junsu offered while handing each of them a pair of jeans and t-shirts, both articles of clothing which were too baggy for the girls. Then, Yunho passed them the headgear they had on yesterday from the airport and the seven of them left the apartment more or less without any more delays.
At the shoot…
“Good! Good! Do that one pose again Jaejoong-sshi. Perfect! Now… group pictures.” The photographer gave orders. They had been at the photo shoot for approximately half an hour and now the individual shoot was done. It was faster than Adelle had thought. The girls were sitting in the side, admiring the boys’ professionalism. Occasionally, “ooh” and “ahh” were heard coming from the female staff whenever one of the members did an exceptionally charismatic pose.
Five minutes later, the manager called for Aveline to be on the set for her part. The butterflies in Aveline’s stomachs returned and she paled, though it was unnoticeable with the make up she had on. The boys all turned around to see Aveline. They had their make up and hair done before her and were curious to see how she looked with the brown SMART uniform this fall season. They grinned.
Aveline appeared very natural in the uniform. Her make up and hair were not too overbearing that it covered up her natural beauty. She wore her hair completely straight, with her bangs styled to the side. Yunho smiled.
“See?!?! Didn’t I tell you that she’d be perfect for the shoot?”
“Err… actually hyung.. You didn’t. You said that noona was perfect for the shoot.”
“Don’t get smart with me Changmin.” Yunho brushed him aside and took Aveline’s hand, twirling her. She blushed at all the attention she was getting. Adelle smiled triumphantly on the side because she successfully evaded the shoot.
“Enough chit-chat. If you guys cooperate, we can finish this faster. I’m getting hungry.” The photographer’s voice boomed over the microphone. They chuckled in response but immediately recovered their composure. The boys moved away from the set. Aveline panicked and pulled the closest person beside her, Yoochun. He smiled at her, gave her a thumbs-up, and gently pulled away from her grasp.
“It’s time for your individual shoot.” He stated before joining the other members.
“What?!?! No one told me about an individual shoot!!!” All eyes turned to Adelle once again, who winced and squeaked a small “oops” while sending apologetic eye signals toward her cousin. Aveline felt her knees go weak and felt a dizzy spell coming on before Adelle rushed over to her aid.
“Umm… can I steal her for a moment?” Adelle pulled her cousin aside. “Aveline…you can do this. You and I always take random pictures and we cam-whore all the time… think of this shoot as that… except with a professional photographer taking the pictures.” Aveline simply stared at her best friend.
“Right, and not to mention about 50 people present to watch over me, 5 of whom are actually my idols. You’re kidding right? I can’t do this Adelle… please do this with me!!” Aveline tugged on Adelle’s sleeve like a child.
“I’ll do it behind the camera, okay? I’ll be right next to the photographer the whole time. Forget that the other people are here. Just look at me and pretend that we’re in our room and I’m the one taking the picture.” The older girl squeezed Aveline’s hand encouragingly and massaged her tense shoulders in the style of a coach tending to a boxer in a match.
“Okay… I’m ready… I think…” And they both walked back to the set, received with encouraging smiles from the boys. Aveline muttered “I can do this” over and over again. However, when the spotlight hit her, she tensed. She prayed with all the sanity left in her that she would not fall down and embarrass herself.
