Chapter 6
2:30 PM
“So Jon, how did you manage to sneak out here and pick me up?” Aveline looked up at the man curiously.
“It was simple. She took a nap. She must have been tired from last night. I bet that when you see her, she’s going to talk endlessly about it. When she came home an hour late last night, she looked like she had just visited heaven,” replied Jon, ushering Aveline into the rented car.
“Haha… I bet. I wish I were there to see it live too. It’s a good thing I forced her to go without me huh? It was probably the best birthday present anyone could ever have given her.” In the car, Aveline started to chat with Jon about her summer activities as well as catch up with the occurrences in Indonesia while she was away.
Aveline was still very tired from her flight. It was a long 12 hour flight. Additionally, she was not scheduled to be back until the next day but when Jon called her the night before, or rather in the afternoon US time, she had to make a few changes. She adjusted her flight to Indonesia to a flight heading to Malaysia and asked for a day early leave from her internship. It was a good thing that her supervisor favored her. On top of that, she also had just finished the final for her summer classes that morning.
She had heard what happened with the birthday dinner that Adelle was supposed to have with her parents. Aveline knew how important and how much her cousin had been looking forward to it. So when Jon told her that her aunt and uncle cancelled the plans, Jon need not say anything more. Aveline herself declared that she was coming back as soon as possible. She was on the flight to Malaysia an hour and a half after she hung up.
When the two arrived at the hotel room, they found Adelle still sleeping peacefully. Aveline jumped on the bed on an attempt to wake her beloved cousin up, but failed miserably when the only response she received came as a soft grunt.
“This is hopeless. How about we just drag her into the car and go. Hopefully, somewhere along the way, she would wake up. At this rate, we’re going to waste a whole day just watching the little princess sleep.” Aveline sighed, giving up after having pinched the older girl’s cheeks.
“That’s fine with me. But she’s still in the hotel robe. We can’t drag her like that!”
“Then you go change her. She’s too heavy for me.” This was received by a loud gasp from the older man. Aveline looked at him. Jon made hand gestures all over his body which caused Aveline to laugh. “Oh RIGHT! You’re a GUY! Sorry Jon, it’s been a long day for me.” She dragged her cousin to the bathroom roughly, causing Adelle’s head to collide loudly to the door of the bathroom. “Ouch! That’s gonna leave a mark. Sorry dear.” She stared at Adelle’s form apologetically. However, as Jon saw the look on her face, he doubted it was a complete accident.
It took her about half an hour just trying to properly place every article of clothing in the correct place on Adelle’s body. Being about the same weight as the other, by the time she was done, Aveline panted like she had just exercised for hours. She tried to lift Adelle out of the bathroom but found that all strength has left her body and called Jon for help instead.
When Jon’s head emerged into the bathroom, his eyes widened. It looked as if a herd of elephants rampaged all over bathroom. The two girls were sprawled on the floor, Adelle still sleeping with the robe and towel spread out around her on the floor with Aveline sitting next to her, exhausted.
“Well that sure took you long enough.” Jon smirked, enjoying himself.
“Oh shut up and help me bring this pig out of here.” By this time, Aveline was too tired to be polite. “Have you finished packing all the stuff?”
Jon grunted in reply as he simultaneously lifted Adelle on his back. “I never knew she was this heavy.” Aveline laughed.
It took approximately an hour or maybe an hour and a half to reach Genting from Kuala Lumpur and throughout the whole trip, Adelle slept peacefully in the backseat. Even Adelle, who had literally had a long day due to the time zone changes, managed to catch a half hour of slumber.
A few minutes before the three arrive at the resort, Aveline recovered from her sleep. Rubbing her eyes sleepily, she turned to look at the window and gasps in amazement at the high altitude she found herself in. This was her first time in Malaysia too and the sight of wisps of clouds that float by her delighted her inner child immensely. Aveline twisted her body to face the back row and tugged on Adelle’s shirt roughly.
“Adelle! Wake up! You’re not going to want to miss this!!! WAKE UP!!!” By this time Aveline had given up the tugging and poked her cousin on the stomach with the help of her shoes. Adelle woke up with a start due to the alien environment she found herself in. After adjusting to the fact that she had just woken up inside a car, she blinked away the sleepiness and realized that her best friend was on the front seat, grinning from ear to ear. “Hi sunshine!” Aveline greeted.
“AHHHH!!!!! AVELINE!!!!!!” She practically threw herself to the front seat to hug her other half. Jon yelped,
“Adelle! Control yourself! You’re going to make this whole car tip over.” A look of pure horror graced his face when the sudden shift of weight caused the car to weave dangerously on the narrow and sharp-turning road. Both girls giggled happily and pressed their hands and faces to the windows. Then, a wind blew into the car as Jon rolled down the windows. The girls stuck their hands out and played happily with the mist outside while enjoying the cool breeze at the top of the mountain.
“It’s beautiful.” Adelle remarked. Not long after, the car entered the resort area and Jon pulled up on one of the hotels. The three were welcomed by the bell boys who carry their luggage into the hotel and escorted them to the reception desk. Jon checked the three of them into a large penthouse suite while the girls walked around the large lobby, marveling the marbled interior and the people bustling about, chattering excitedly about what they are going to do next. Jon motioned them to the elevator and they followed, arms linked together, skipping happily to the man.
They placed their belongings into the spacious suite, Jon once again taking his place in the living room. This time, however, he decided to ask for an extra bed.
They sat around on the couch, catching their breaths before Aveline exclaimed, “What are we doing? They day is no longer young. We should go explore the area!” Jon groaned. Often, going with the two girls meant causing him a lot of unnecessary stress and body pains. He waved his hands aimlessly to indicate that he was staying safely inside the confines of the suite. The girls shrugged and left the room carelessly. He was almost offended.
The first place they went to was the indoor skydiving area. Looking at the time, they saw that it was four hours past noon and hurried their steps to the theme park. Unfortunately, the direction was confusing for the girls and a trip that should only take 5 minutes ended up being a 20 minute adventure.
Arriving there, they gasped in awe at the excitement of the indoor theme park. There were rides above them, next to them, and everywhere they looked. Both girls grinned at each other and with some unspoken agreement began to race each other to the dome in the middle of the park. They were surprised at the amount of the people crowding the area. When they approached the desk, they found that most of the people were simply there to watch.
They simultaneously asked the lady behind the counter to sign them up. She frowned apologetically, informing us that the last spot for the afternoon had been taken up by a group of people for a private session. Looking at their dejected expressions, the lady took pity. “Well, if you can persuade them to let you join them in their session, then I wouldn’t mind squeezing you guys in. Good luck on that. We have plenty of celebrities coming here and I heard that these people are quite famous and exclusive.”
“Well, there goes our chance.” Aveline sighed. A group of people walked into the room, followed by a group of screaming girls that were being held at bay by a few bodyguards. Adelle gasped.
“Well, maybe not. Follow me.” Adelle pulled her cousin over to the direction of the five tall men in front of them. She stopped right in front of the intimidating bodyguards. She mustered her best smile. “Hey boys!”
“Adelle!!!” The guys called out simultaneously. The room fell silent. The girls who were loudly screaming the guys’ names were glaring murderously at Adelle. Aveline, on the other hand, stared with mouth agape, a little bit of drool dripping down the corner of her bottom lip. Without even looking sideways, Adelle stretched her fingers out to close Aveline’s mouth. That successfully brought Aveline out of her reverie.
“Hey, I thought you guys were supposed to go back to Korea this morning.” Adelle started the conversation, as well as breaking the silence in the room.
“Ah yes, about that. Changmin here cannot seem to wake up in the morning, causing the rest of us to miss our flights.” Yunho answered, smiling. “The next flight isn’t until really early tomorrow morning, so we figured that we’d spend some time sightseeing. Then, I heard about this place and well, I’m a sucker for things like this. Fancy meeting you here though.” In the back, Changmin looked offended.
“It wasn’t just me. Yoochun hyung was late too! Besides, why did we have to take the flight that’s like… 6 in the morning after a concert.” Yoochun, who had been pulled into the conversation turned his head toward the tallest member and easily slapped the back of his head. Then, he focused his attention back to the two females standing before them and smiled. Aveline felt her heart plummet to the ground between her feet.
“So, who’s this lovely lady next to you Adelle?” Yoochun stepped closer and stood in front of Aveline, locking his eyes with hers.
“I’m.. I’m…” Adelle groaned and cut in,
“She’s my cousin, Aveline. Excuse her drooling form, she flew here all the way from the U.S. on a 12 hour flight to cheer me up and hasn’t had a proper night’s sleep. Oh, and she’s a huge fan of yours too.”
“Oh, it’s a pleasure to meet you Aveline. That’s a pretty name.” Junsu stepped up and offered his hand with that cute smile of his, not forgetting to slap Yoochun’s head in the process. Aveline looked at it for a few seconds before extending her own numb limb forward for a proper handshake.
“Um, guys… excuse us for a second will you?” It was now the guys’ turn to be surprised. Aveline had changed from a star struck fan girl to a normal person in the blink of an eye. They watched her as she dragged the other female to the other corner of the room, her mouth moving a mile a minute.
“ADELLE!!!! That’s Dong Bang Shin Gi!!!”
“Right… and you think I don’t know that?” Adelle replied coolly, knowing that her indifference was annoying the daylights out of her cousin.
“How did you get to know them? When? Why? You didn’t even tell me!!! How could you?!?!” Aveline was beginning to lose her cool, and Adelle’s attitude was certainly not helping. Adelle took the improper time to let out a huge whoop of laughter. The events that had happened in the past few days overwhelmed her with happiness. First, the concert, then, knowing the boys, and then Aveline flying across the world just to see her. Additionally, the boys had asked her to do a commercial with them. Adelle was struck with another brilliant idea.
Adelle peered at Aveline with a conspiring look and pulled her cousin closer. “Hey, what if I tell you that I have something that will cheer you up in an instant. It will make you, me, and the boys happy.” Then, without waiting for Aveline’s answer and yelp of surprise, Adelle hauled her back to the boys.
“Okay. I have a great idea! But first… the both of us need to ask for a favor from you guys.” Adelle chirped.
“Again? What is that? The second favor since we met you yesterday?” Junsu complained while sighing dramatically and leaning his form on Yoochun, who stood next to him. “I feel…so used.” Yoochun joined in on the act by patting the younger one on the back. Adelle’s smile vanished and she looked down. She apologized softly and left the room, dragging a reluctant Aveline behind. It truly was not her place to ask such things. She scolded herself.
The boys burst into laughter. The two girls turned around in surprise. Junsu and Yoochun were heaving with laughter. They approached the two girls. Yoochun put his arms on both the girls and Junsu stood next to Adelle, pulling her back toward the center of the room. “We were just kidding. So what is it?”
Adelle stared at Junsu like he just grew another head and then calmly turned to the other members. “Well, Aveline and I were planning to go on this too.” She explained, pointing to the small circular room. “But the lady says that you guys booked a private session and there are no more open spots left. So we were hoping that we can join in with you guys. We’ll pay for our share,” she added the last part hurriedly in hopes that the guys would be more likely to say yes.
“Well, we’ll let you in on one condition. You guys treat us to ice cream afterwards,” Jaejoong finally opened his mouth. Both girls grinned.
“Deal!”
Chapter 7
“WHOOOO!!!!!!!”
Jaejoong and Yunho were currently in the small room, having the time of their lives floating up and down with the assistance of the instructor. The other three band members plus the two females sat outside the circular room, tapping their feet excitedly while waiting for their turn. Since the room was quite small, the seven of them could not be in all at once. Additionally, since there were two extra persons than expected, their turn came much faster if everyone paired up.
When the instructor declared this, Jaejoong immediately scooted over to stand right next to Yunho. Aveline and Adelle also became an automatic pair. Junsu, who initially wanted to pair up with Adelle, sighed as he paired up with Yoochun, who wriggled his eyebrows at the younger brunette. Changmin frowned when he realized that he had no one to pair up with.
“Why is it always like this? I’m always the lonely one. Even in those fan fictions our fans write. Jaejoong hyung is always with Yunho hyung and Junsu and Yoochun hyungs are a pair. This sucks.” He began to complain in fast Korean. The girls stared at Changmin in confusion. Yoochun quickly translated.
“I’ll pair up with you next time Changmin, okay?” Adelle smiled at the youngest in the bunch. Changmin brightened and nodded cheerfully, thanking his new favorite noona.
The session lasted 2 hours, each person getting about 15 minutes of flying. Each person was given a certificate indicating their successful completion of the skydiving session. Additionally, since DBSK was a celebrity, the instructor asked for a picture to hang in the wall of fame.
Since a lot of fans were waiting for them outside of the arena, they decided that in order to enjoy their time at the park, they needed a decoy and a disguise. Junsu piped up,
“Maybe we can change clothes with the bodyguards and then they can come out, pretending to be us and lure the fans away from the park.” Six pairs of eyes turned toward him.
“You know, that’s not a bad idea. You surprise me sometimes, Junsu.” Yoochun said, with other members nodding behind him. Junsu beamed momentarily before replacing it with a frown.
“HEY!!!! That’s not nice!” A slap landed on Yoochun’s arm. The girls chuckled, especially Aveline, who found this exchange very funny and was unable to stop. Junsu scowled.
“It’s not THAT funny.” She howled louder to the embarrassment of her cousin. Adelle covered her cousin’s mouth in an apologetic smile toward the boys.
So the plan was carried out, with the guys trading their stylish outfits with the plain black ones of their bodyguards. Adelle grimaced.
“You know guys, wearing an all black outfit like that isn’t exactly low profile either. I think after we manage to leave this area, we should head over to a clothing store first.” Murmurs of agreement resounded in the room.
Soon, they came out of the skydiving area, at first tiptoeing and when they were convinced of their safety from mobs of fan girls, they walked normally toward the closest store. The girls began to pick out clothes from the rack to throw at the boys. Adelle even pulled a shirt of off the mannequin when there were no more available inside. In less then thirty minutes, the boys sauntered out of the fitting room in their new clothes. The employees gasped in delight at the sight before their eyes. The girls grinned at each other. These men were not stars for no reason. The boys paid for the clothes and headed out.
Coming out of the store and having taken off the black outfits, each person was sporting a huge grin, especially Changmin, who was looking forward to the ice cream that Adelle promised. Aveline, who considered herself as part of the treat-ee was pulling Adelle toward the ice cream stand not so far from the indoor skydiving area.
Yunho stopped in his track. Yoochun, who realized that his walking buddy had gone missing from his side, stopped as well and looked back to see a grinning Yunho.
“What’s so funny?” Yunho pointed to the five people in front of them. Aveline was pulling Adelle while next to them, Changmin and Junsu were yanking on a hesitant Jaejoong toward the ice cream stand in a similar manner.
“Don’t you think that Adelle resembles Jaejoong while Aveline is like… a combination of Changmin and Junsu?” Yunho doubled over in laughter, followed by Yoochun. The five people in front of them stopped and turned to find the two leaning on each other for support while holding their stomachs.
“What’s so funny?” The five asked, simultaneously. This only caused Yoochun and Yunho to laugh harder.
Fifteen minutes later, the group of seven sat on a round table enjoying their ice creams. Everyone was happy, except for Adelle. She had promised to treat them to ice cream, in the singular sense. However, when she looked around the table, each person had at least 2 different kinds of ice cream bars in their possession, except Changmin, who naturally had five. Seeing her upset face, Jaejoong laughed.
“I’m sorry I forgot to tell you that we’re all ice cream fans,” he apologized while licking his green tea flavored ice cream. He did not really like sweets, but it was the principle of the matter. Adelle grunted in response. “Hey, you still owe us anyways. We did two favors for you. This only repays for the birthday one.” Hearing this, Aveline nudged Junsu and Changmin, who were comparing the best flavor of ice cream, to ask them about the birthday favor Jaejoong mentioned.
As Junsu and Changmin told the girl, Yunho cleared his throat, which was pointedly ignored by the others. I seriously need to get it to their heads what being the ‘leader’ means, Yunho thought to himself. Yunho slammed his hands on the table. All eyes were now on him. Hmmph…as it should be, he smiled smugly.
“Jaejoong brought up a good point about the favor. Adelle, you still owe us one and there is still that commercial that still doesn’t have a leading girl.” He sighed dramatically.
“I get your point, Yunho. Stop with the drama.” Adelle rolled her eyes. She glanced over at her cousin who was having an intense discussion with DBSK’s two youngest members. “Say, don’t you think that Aveline is like… a combination of Junsu and Changmin?” She looked to the three members for agreement. Yunho and Yoochun once again burst out laughing, with Jaejoong and Adelle staring at the two like they were deranged.
Suddenly, Adelle brightened. She beckoned her three talking companions closer. She whispered secretively to them. The boys listened intently, nodding their heads once in awhile. Aveline, Junsu, and Changmin, who felt like they have been left out of the conversation wanted to be included but were immediately pushed away. They pouted.
“Okay, so you guys all agree with this?” Adelle finished the discussion, moving away from the other three boys who bobbed their heads in excitement. “Great, this way, everyone’s happy.”
“Who’s gonna tell her?” Yoochun pointed his thumb at Aveline.
“Tell me what?”
“Don’t worry about it. I can tell her later. We should now discuss the plan.” With that, Adelle and the three boys joined their heads in a tight huddle once again, ignoring Aveline’s question. Aveline scoffed while Junsu patted her back sympathetically.
“It’s okay, Aveline. Changmin and I get that all the time from our hyungs.” Changmin nodded, taking the last bite of his ice cream bar and eyeing the others in jealousy. They then continue their conversation, finishing the last bit of their ice cream bar in slow motion to torture the youngest.
Little did they know, it was time for the boys to go back to the hotel to rest for the night in preparation for their ridiculously early flight to Korea. Aveline was sad and tried to hide it by looking down to her shoes. Seeing this, Jaejoong, who was a naturally kind-hearted person, could not help but lift her chin tenderly, which forced Aveline to gaze up at his dark brown orbs with teary eyes. Jaejoong smiled at her encouragingly, wiped her eyes tenderly, and enveloped her in a bear hug, with him resting his chin on her head. Aveline buried her head further into Jaejoong’s chest, causing his shirt to be slightly damp. Adelle could not help but feel jealous. After all, she saw him first and he was her favorite.
Junsu saw the expression on Adelle’s face and approached her. He knew that she was sad because of Jaejoong. But even though he was upset that she did not see him the same way, he still wanted to be friends. After all, he saw her first. He appeared before her with the adorable smile that defined Junsu. He opened his arms wide. Adelle smirked, looking him up and down before briskly turning her face away from him in a haughty manner. Junsu pouted and his smile vanishes, replaced with a dejected expression. Adelle laughed at his behavior and before he walked away, she ran over to jump-hug him. Junsu felt his breath knocked out of him but returned the hug happily, twirling her around before setting her gently on the ground.
Adelle giggled as she pulled away from the warm embrace, her heart slightly skipping a beat seeing the tender smile on Junsu’s face. Then, she saw Changmin tapping Junsu’s shoulder. Junsu turned around.
“Hyung, stop hogging all the love from noona. I still haven’t gotten a hug yet.” Adelle laughed and went over to the tall boy to give him a hug, her head barely reaching his Adam’s apple. She looked at Aveline, who was now hugging Yoochun. She saw her cousin laugh between her tears. She was amused at Yoochun’s relentless flirting attempts.
After each girl had gotten a hug from each of the five boys, they waved goodbye, with the guys walking outside to the car that would take them to the airport. The girls put their arms around each other and sighed.
“Now today is probably the best day of my life.” Aveline muttered under her breath, only loud enough for Adelle to hear. Her cousin pondered for a second, a teasing grin surfacing.
“Yes… that probably is the best day of our lives. Now… as for the best NIGHT of my life…” She allowed her voice to trail for a second before glancing meaningfully at her younger cousin. Aveline’s eyes widened.
“OH YEAH! OMG Adelle!!! You have the hottest group in Asia sing you a happy birthday song exclusively for you?!?!?! And you didn’t tell me?” Adelle chuckled, her jealousy toward her best friend forgotten. “By the way, what were you talking to the guys about? You said that you will tell me later… it’s later now. So tell me!”
“Well…” Adelle started, recalling her previous conversation with the guys. The two females walked back to their hotel room, Adelle’s arms around Aveline’s shoulder and Aveline’s arm around Adelle’s waist. Unaware of their charms, they were attracting quite a bit of attention, especially from the male visitors of the park. The walk was quite calm, until…
“YOU TOLD THEM WHAT?!?!!?” Adelle winced and covered her ears, running away from her angry cousin.
