Sadness

Total opposite of my last post.  I am not sure if I can do this again.  My oldest doggie Mackie is 17 years old and we have had him since he was 4 months old...rescued from the pound.  His name was given to him by Bruce....Mack.  He said MA for Matt and CK for Nick.  He was our first dog.  He has been having some major coughing issues and started ( Read more... )

:( It's the worst thing in the world!!! Pets are family members...it hurts so much when things like this happen.

All I can offer as advice is this...it's better to realize when it's better to put your pet to sleep than to keep it alive because you don't want the pain of losing them. The good thing is that if you make the decision, you can go into the vet's office, and hold your pet as they pass on from this world. That way their final memory is of you showing love for them, rather than of suffering in pain as the vet makes emergency life saving efforts on an operating table.

It's hard to make such a decision, but in the end, you can look back on the pleasant aspect of making this choice.

Thanks Jill....I just read your post about Scooterpie.....I am so sorry for your loss also. It totally 100% sucks. Seems we have both had a run of bad luck with our fur families. Knowing I made an unselfish loving decision makes it a titch easier. I held on to my old boy until I could feel his heart beat no longer...he looked very peaceful....that also makes it worth it. Thanks again for your understanding.

You can do this. If I lived near you, I would already be at your house asking what I can do to help. As soon as this is over, you will feel so much lighter, and know you have done what you had to do. The dog understands; I really believe this. I did this with a cat once and talked to her about it all the way to the vet. She looked at me and purred and I swear, smiled.

Yesterday another of my friend's put their old dog, Baxter, to sleep as well. (((hugs))

Thanks for the hugs Em, if you lived near me...we would be trouble together...lol.
I too know that Mackie understood...he seemed very into me all morning after making the call to the Vet. Almost like relief, if that makes sense?
Thanks for your kindess and hugs, I certainly felt them with me throughout my Vet appointment.

Thanks so much and hugging your dogs made me smile. We have already received Mackie's ashes back..with Gracie last year, I bought a really awesome carved wooden urn. I asked the man at that time if I should get 3 more for the future and he assured me he would still be around. Well, he isn't, so I have my eye on 3 cedar urns that will match for the boys. It does make me feel better to know Mackie isn't suffering and that his ashes will be with me forever.
