For a positive futue (though not exactly "not too distant"), I want to live in the Culture!

It's not quite a film or TV, but from what Wiki tells me... it sounds a bit boring, really. No challenge, no incentive to advance because everything is already there... so what's the point? It's like the film Wall-E, have you seen that? Everyone just turns into fat lazy slugs because there's no reason to do anything. I don't believe mankind would actually turn out like that, but, it's an extreme illustrated to good effect.

What about The Thunderbirds? Or The Jetsons? They were both positive futures. But mostly, happy futures don't really have much scope for dramatic storytelling, lol.

Ahhhh, good point. They are both shows for kids though, which could explain the lack of a controlling, all-seeing government. But I do get your point about drama being for interesting while you're fighting for freedom against giant robots that control everything.

dystopias own though :D

then there are the ones which could be either utopia or dystopia, depending on how you look at it (i.e. Brave New World).

In a cinematic sense, sure! They make for much more entertaining viewing.

Ahh, well, there's just no pleasing everyone.
