Everyone knows the most accurate way to do science is LJ polls, and since barbed_whispers is clearly just MAKING THINGS UP I thought I'd come here to verify.

Poll Oppa Cotton Style

In other terrifying news, someone mashed up Cotton Eyed Joe and Gangnam Style, because why not I guess?

And by "the dance of my people", I of course mean the dances of 16th century Western Europe (France and Britain weren't that different dance-wise at the time). Because that is what I do as a reenactor.

This ^

or the Virginia Reel, because that's what they teach you at private schools in old Southern cities like where I grew up.

Also I'm not sure if the dance I know to Cotton-Eye Joe is the one everyone else knows? Because it's a line dance. There's a lot of linedancing around here in backwoods Ohio where I live now. >.>

The only stupid dance I learned as a kid that I still mostly remember is the macarena.

Wow, hard to find a video more 90's.

Also, damn you, flashing back to middle school.

OH GOD I SANG ALONG TO THE "His friends were SOOOO FINE" PART. WHY DO I STILL KNOW THIS?

My sister pulled me aside before my first middle school dance and said to me, "Since this is a dance, you'll need to know the Macarena." And then she showed me how to do it using a teddy bear.

Surprise, surprise, this was 1996.
