Pirates of the Caribbean 2: a parody

Dec 26, 2006 20:48

Just last week I was commenting to naill_renfro that I didn't feel much inspired to this (which he was claiming he didn't either), but then I did it anyway. Ah well. Don't expect much.

*falls out of chair laughing* That movie left me so confused. The subplots! Don't let the subplots eat meee!

Re. the dice game: about half my friendslist was geeking out over it because apparently it's a real game from that historical period, and really is that complicated and my friendslist is so geeky that they actually know the rules of an Age of Sail dice game that is so hard to understand that you need a three-day seminar to understand it. *boggles*

Good to know, about the dice game! I have grudging respect for the moviemakers for using an authentic game; but jeez, making us all feel dumbfounded and adrift was not polite. ;)

Y'know, I have been watching ENTIRELY too much college football. When I first read the "redshirts" reference, I'm trying to fit pirates into the context of freshmen who aren't going to be allowed to play for a year...

I'm going to lose my geek license if I'm not careful. ;-)

Hehehe. Indeed, missy, watch yourself. ;) (though those pirates playing football makes an amusing image of incompetence...)

but apparently the SCREENWRITERS are so confident about there being a third movie that they didn't see any need to tie things up.

Actually, this film and the third were worked on simultaneously, a la LotR; it was never intended to stand alone. This is largely the reason why I have no idea whether or not this installment is any good; for all intents and purposes, I've seen only the first half of the picture, and the ending's going to determine whether it turns out to be a coherent whole or just a complete mess.

I remembered that somewhat later, after the movie was over. Remembering it *during* the movie might have been more helpful, since then I wouldn't have expected some kind of resolution!
