Revenge of the Sith (Backstroke of the West): Engrish version

Jul 06, 2005 11:06

Sorry for my prolonged absence here. Been busy for many a reason (see lemonlyelit for just one). But I found you a good funneh today:

Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, Engrish subtitles. Even more incoherent than the ones for LOTR, looks like. Put down the beverages before clicking.

parody by others, star wars

::tries, fails to stop laughing::

I speak Chinese, so I can understand what went wrong with SOME of the translations, but some of them are still WTF. It looks like it was translated properly into Chinese, but then totally Babelfished into "English," because the sentences are structured just how they are in Chinese.

language rambling. sorry! marlo July 6 2005, 19:13:18 UTC
For instance: I bet it's backstroke of the West because they probably transliterated the word "Sith" into xi (pronounced "shee"), which sounds like Sith but means "west." Most things from English are transliterated into things that sound like the word, but the characters come from somewhere else because they wouldn't invent new characters every time they came in contact with a new word. (e.g. "hamburger" becomes "han bao bao")

Heh! Interesting. So it is via such a path that "Jedi Council" becomes "Presbyterian church"??

They've overloaded the bandwidth already - dammit.

And there are numerous cries for someone to torrent it.

Hm, drat. Didn't save it myself. I imagine it is out there in bootlegable version, though.
