Yay, I'm so glad that someone else is watching Crazy Ex-Girlfriend! That poor little show needs all the help it can get. I think the only thing keeping it on the air is that the CW loves to hold on to shows that get any kind of critical acclaim. I didn't know that about Rachel Bloom and Ilana Glazer! Jeez, I would love to have been a fly on the wall of that apartment.
Arrival - Loved it. Smart, thoughtful, and sad. I loved the alienness of the aliens and the competency of the main character.
Ooo... I was already interested in seeing this one, but that last bit makes me want to see it even more. I have a thing for movies where the characters are actually competent, which may sound weird, but it's amazing how few movies there are with that particular feature. It's one of the reasons I adored "San Andreas" even beyond the fact that I'm a sucker for disaster movies. It gave us some really nicely competent characters (with backstories to explain *why* they know what they're doing) amongst some wonderful disaster effects. It's just so satisfying!
I really enjoyed watching a movie where the main character is just really good at her job and confident in her abilities. Incidentally, the thing the movie reminded me most of was the Star Trek: TNG episode "Darmok".
1. Stranger Things - I don't care if it was nostalgia, this just hit my buttons in exactly the right way. Gorgeous show. I have nothing to say about it, but I enjoyed it immensely.
4. Full Frontal with Samantha Bee - I didn’t realize how much I needed a woman hosting a show like this. I find her anger cathartic. Here she is talking about “identity politics.” <3 I wish I had more time to watch stuff like that, or that it was on my TV rather than having to search it out. Between her and Trevor Noah I find that the 'not straight, white male' POV for political 'satire' it truly excellent.
I have not been to the cinema in... I don't even know how long. Might seek out Arrival when it's on DVD/Netflix.
I bought for myself was the Hamilton: A Revolution book We got this for our 15 year old for Christmas. It's gorgeous.

I love Stephen Colbert, John Oliver, Jon Stewart, etc., but it's so refreshing to have more diversity in political comedy, and I find it so satisfying to watch a woman who is as pissed off as I am about so many issues, but capable of being articulate and funny about it.
(And since I don't have a Samantha Bee icon, I have to use my Colbert one!)
