I briefly thought parasols might be the new trend in romance novel covers:

That The Princess Bride cover is v.v. disturbing.

It's like the very bad acid trip version of The Princess Bride. Very. Bad.

I have no idea what that cover has to do with The Princess Bride. I want to know why there's a bird on her head, but more importantly, I'm concerned about the snakes and skulls coming out of her body. And is there a naked woman-shaped thing doing a backbend on her left? Buttercup and Westley would be very confused by all of this! As am I.
"points to icon"

And yeah, not only trends in book covers but often trends in romance novels; one year it's all Vikings, the next year Native Americans, the following year pirates...

Don't forget vampires! Possibly the most pervasive trend of all.;)

Off topic but did you watch the Psych episode that was an homage to Twin Peaks.
I loved seeing everyone again and all the little in jokes even if the story itself was kinda dumb.

I did watch it! I enjoyed all the little in-jokes too, I could tell it was obviously written by people who loved Twin Peaks. It was great to see all the actors again too. I admit, I was shocked by Dana Ashbrook's gray hair. How can he possibly be old enough for gray hair??

Bwahahaha, brilliant!

The princess bride cover is just wrong :)
But a few years ago ever fantasy book had to look like it was porn to be considered acceptable reading, or so it seems to me.

Heee, it's true, fantasy and sci-fi have a long history of terrible, porntastic covers. I just wonder how anyone who bought that book based on the cover felt about the content of the story once he read it? Was he wondering "wait, where is the naked backbend lady I was promised!?"

re: Princess Bride - but imagine the story that fits this art!

I love the parasol and the sword trend. Very non-Freudian. oh, yes!

Heh, I do not think I WANT to imagine the story that goes with the art! Those snakes are making me very uncomfortable!

Ahhhh! I clicked on the larger version and now I wish I hadn't! What the hell? Why is she naked? And turning into a snake? Did they get mixed up and put the wrong cover on? So many questions...

As for the romance novel trends, I think I'll pick half naked, or at least scruffy looking, men pulling out swords as my favorite. They can continue with that trend. *g* Though it would be nice if they had some hair on their torsos.

What the hell? Why is she naked?

Princess Buttercup would not approve! Seriously, I have no idea what's going on there, and I'm not sure I want to know!

Hot guys and their swords are always a no-fail idea, I feel.;)
