Can you access web pages while iTunes is doing that? If so, the LAN connection is probably OK and the problem is elsewhere.

Yes, I can. I'm pretty sure it's that CDDB file. But now t's a non issue.

I'm going with Dr. P to buy a new mac on Monday. And I'm feeling really great about it. Now I can get rid of my home phone, and get internet via cable.

Plus I'll donate this computer to Shane's charity thing. So, it's all good.

Wow, my Dell is bad but it's not that bad. I think you got an especially bad computer. My Dell can't tell what CD I've put into iTunes unless it's connected to the internet. For over a year I manually entered every artist, song, and album title into the program. But it lets me upload photos, Firefox is my default browser, and mine doesn't have a burner, so I haven't been able to make any CDs with similar sound problems. Sorry you bought a Dell. I need a new laptop and I'm not sure what I'll get. I don't think I want a Mac, but is there a good PC laptop out there?

Yes, there are actually. I have heard good things about HP laptops. I think our friend playmayt has some insight.

I think I'll be happy with the Mac. I have very specific needs, and am really that customer that Mac wants, so we should live happily ever after.
