I went to hear the Chicago Symphony Orchestra last night. The first piece of the second half was Webern's Five Pieces for Orchestra. Before it was played, the conductor, Mark Elder, addressed the audience, beginning, "I know most of you came for the Brahms . . .", and then

This is why I'm a fan of Classic Arts Showcase: it continuously presents snippets of sundry high culture productions to the public eye. I envision channel hopping teenagers abruptly being enthralled (or going "What the f...?!?), some of whom shall dig deeper. It gets the art out there. And it can be gorgeously surreal. I stumbled upon a comic opera yesterday about the Huguenots (German language)... Talk about "high sewing"! And the Pope and John Calvin were played by children!

Which brand of vodka, BTW? Three Olives? I work in the liquor industry.
