A View from the Superdome

Sep 23, 2005 15:28

I've been meaning to post this here for a while, so I'll be able to get to it. It was posted on one of my legal listservs. The woman who wrote it is a lawyer with the Louisiana Department of Social Services and was assigned to work at the Superdome.

It's really long, but worth reading.

How nightmarish... gorydetails September 24 2005, 04:36:41 UTC
It's still hard to believe that things could go so wrong so quickly - although whenever I try to figure out just how one *could* arrange a workable evacuation or disaster plan for a densely-populated area I shudder and give up. That's a very powerful picture of life in the Dome - and a scary one; I may have some "don't leave me here" dreams of my own...

Some stories are so gripping that they don't need writers tricks of pacing and climaxes. They just have to be told in plain words.

I found myself reading on and on as the conditions deteriorated. I could all but feel the muck under my feet and the stink in my nostrils.

Thanks for posting that up.
