Who to vote for?

So, I was all set to vote for McKinney and the green party. First all woman ticket, first all person of color ticket, and for all that I'm not entirely on board with their platform, one of the only two liberal/progressive choices available, and I'm *still* pissed at Nader about 2000, along with getting a general feeling that he's in this more for ( Read more... )

oh, wow, the poll phone calls. I got one that was so obviously trying to get people who weren't for Obama to say something that they could construe as racist. Probably, even though I objected to the idea that any racial group could be singled out as having particular characteristics of trustworthiness, when I finally gave in to pollster persistence and gave all races a "5" on the trustworthiness scale, I fully expect that the poll will take my "5" rating to try and show "former Hillary supporters who are not supporting Obama only rate blacks as a '5' on the trustworthy scale, thus showing racist tendencies", ignoring that I gave whites the same score, or that at that time I had pretty firmly made up my mind for McKinney.

Also--why not vote for Zappa? Or anyone else. Maybe we should write in our own names. Or Godzilla. Or something.

I don't know... after researching McKinney and seeing all the amazing things she has done I can let that slide. I don't believe our government is incapable of doing something like that, but I do think it was poor judgment for her to tell this story with so little in the way of information. She's a champion of voting rights, grilled Rumsfeld about employing companies that traffic women and I like that she questioned from the beginning how the US could have done a better job protecting us from 9/11 with the information they had known. After seeing her stand up for people and being willing to question (and paying for it when she lost her seat to open primaries) I just can't let that statement impact my vote.
