just amazing. the things people will do to try and put a woamn off having an abortion
but after one person told me, that if they had to, they would hold a woman prisoner until she gave birth, in case she wanted to abort, nothing surprises me.

Sad to say, but judges in the Southeastern US have more or less done/tried to do exactly that in a number of cases over the years.

It's legislation like this that makes me so much more committed to getting my MD and becoming an abortion provider. There are so many people working to restrict access to abortion, I don't feel like we have enough people on our side, working to keep abortion safe and legal. When even democrats are calling abortion tragedies, and spouting pro-life rhetoric, it makes me wonder how long until women like me will have to travel abroad to ensure that our reproductive freedoms are still available.

First, you get total applause and respect from me for this. You know I've said for years that I consider abortion providers to be among the greatest heroes in the U.S. And did you ever read "This Common Secret: My Journeys as an Abortion Doctor" by Susan Wickland? Sasha read it all the way through and thought it was awesome. I had just finished the introduction and maybe the first chapter when Zoe took a turn for the worse so I never read the rest, but even that intro was wrenching and inspirational. (had to turn it back into the library after this; went to check it back out again at beginning of April and it had gone from being at several branches to out of the computer system, weirdly enough ( ... )

I'm wondering if the State of Oklahoma, which mandates this frivolous (i.e., entirely unnecessary) procedure, has provided for paying for it out of State funds/tax money, which seems to be the only fair approach if it's going to be required at all.

From what I read in the comment thread to the article up there, the brilliant legislators made no such funding provision. The whole thing seems to be designed to make getting an abortion as difficult, unpleasant and expensive as possible.

Also hefty progressive fines & penalties for doctors who are caught violating the stupid "law" (I really hate using the word for stuff like this); iirc by the third "offense" you're up to potential loss of license, jail time and up to a $100,000 fine.

I read this quickly through once this morning, so I could remember wrong, and/or the commentor could have had it wrong, so don't take that as gospel.
