Parks and Rec had a "silent" DA reference -- it came up in Leslie's "word bubble" of words she used in e-mails to her friends. :)

(Actually, to me, the best part of the "Office" reference was Jim's line before: "Not every glance means something! Life isn't Downton Abbey!" Hee!!! In that same episode, I believe -- or one really close to it, Andy had a girlfriend, whose friend was having a bachelorette party, and enumerating all her former boyfriends: "And then we come to Matthew, who was with his old girlfriend the entire time we were together!" ;p Not sure if that was intentional or not, but it was hilarious!!! :)

Gilmore Girls referenced DA about a year ago (or more) -- Dan Stevens actually tweeted it. It was the first U.S. show to mention it!!!

But my absolute FAVORITE reference, bar none, is Modern Family:

"No, it's Toontown -- not Toonton. You've been watching too much PBS." and "I've been running through Downton-- Downtown Disney!" :D

Oh thanks for sharing! I love finding out these connections. Joy everywhere it seems. I did see an article that mentioned that when TV Guide used M&M and the Christmas Special on their cover it was the first time they had used a PBS TV show since Carl Sagan's Cosmos series about thirty years ago! I'm over the moon that the show is so popular but still mad at PBS for the way they edit the show. Why do they do that? And its not just Downton they did it to Sherlock too. I saw the first episode of season two in London on my dream vacation and then was horrified to see it again in May on Pbs. Grr.

Anyway yeah for connections!

Oh do NOT get me started on PBS' editing. It makes me SO MAD (and drives me mad, hee! :p ) I didn't notice it with Sherlock S1, though I didn't watch S2 on PBS (just saw the original version). But S1 of DA is SO butchered, I can't EVEN. Especially episodes 6 and 7 (though 5 doesn't fare much better) -- entire subplots are cut out!!! And while they cut very little in S2, they cut M/M's "What's it been like? "The thing is...I just can't talk about it." exchange in 2x01, and a good half of Lavinia's second to last scene in 2x08. SO frustrating!!!

But nothing compares to ep 6 and ep 7 in S1: they cut out A PORTION OF THE PRE-KISS SCENE. Unforgivable!!! :p

Okay *fans herself* what???? I've never heard about these season one cuts before!! Oh those evil evil people.
I've seen a cut scene from the fair in season one but nothing else. I've heard a legend that there is a scene with Sybil going to Crawley house to thank Matthew and Isobel but I've never seen it. Oh but would I ever, that is so perfect.

I've seen these cuts scenes from season two - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-ZxB7MioII&feature=player_embedded
as well as the talk between M&M in 2.04 where he says he is haunted. Oh god I just love that scene it is so delicately passionate, the way he just confesses what she suspects as a soldier in a WHEELCHAIR goes by. Why on earth would they cut this scene? Grrrr.
