I think that in my mind, I've been done discussing in fandom (any fandom) for a while. I mean, it started out really annoying over at HPforGU (AKA GRUMPS) and then we all found our own little nitches at sites and it was good. We had a good run where you could have great, in-depth discussions on the books without a whole lot of annoying bitching

I love taking part in discussions with my f-list and DW has it problems, like any show, but the nitpicking drives me nuts and last week I made a resolution to stay away from anything that looked like it would irritate or annoy me.
So far my week has been a lot brighter!

I adore Martha, Rose and Donna. Freema comes across as very sweet, Billie is wonderful and Catherine cracks me up. Why on earth do I not only have to choose, but feel the need to defend my choices ?
So far I find I have a lot more energy because fandom is not pissing me off, and I have been able to concentrat on critical things, like revision for impending finals!

I think the problem is some fans have unrealistic expectations. No show or book or series or what have you is going to hit a home run every single time. Heck, Jane Austen is my favorite author, but even with her works I like some better than others. But does that mean that I spend every hour of every day outlining the exact reasons why I could take or leave Sense and Sensibility, or why Mansfield Park is practically chloroform in print? No! It means I'll just read Pride and Prejudice again. :P
So. Count me in on your love-fests.

I'm trying to work out my own pattern for knitted Adipose. I don't have any cream-colored yarn at the moment, though. Maybe I need to make a JoAnn's run. . .

It's like the whole Martha vs. Rose thing. I mean, I love Rose. Love and adore her. And the Doctor clearly loves and adores her, too. But Martha is AWESOME. And Martha saved the world. Give her some credit!
I mean, intellectually, I understand having a particular fondness for one of the other. (Actually I don't, though, I'm not sure I could choose between them if you held a gun to my head.) But does that mean you have to hate the one that isn't your favourite? Seriously? Is that, like, a rule?

Seriously. Lack of imagination on the writer's part, if you ask me.

Fandom is a scary place. I am obviously super active within my own fandoms, but I'm also not crazy. And I know a lot of people who are, in fact, crazy. People who think they should run things, people who forget they are talking about fictional characters, people who probably don't have any friends in real life and are so socially inept that they feel the need to freak out on people because they are so ~*passionate*~ about their fandom. They need to cut it out and go outside with the rest of the world. God.

Haha. I had a line in there about miserable, depressed, no-friend-having individuals, but I took it out. But it is TRUE.
