Geek Love

May 01, 2006 19:30

I am 100%, completely in LOVE with Jonathan Coulton. As if his music wasn't enough, he went and made this video.

In other news, I'm signing up for a big band bash at my old high school. It's the band director's 30th year (and next to last) and they are having a big shindig in which I get to get my MARCH ON.

Yeah, that's right. ( Band Geek in the HOUSE! )

Cute. Twirler or Colorguard?

I was a wannabe. I made it through 5 days of bandcamp as a cymbal player under Thom Hannum. I got wasted. Did PR and Equipment for 3 years instead.

Color guard. Two years flag, two years rifle. In high school, that is. I did one year in college, but I found it kind of dull.

I was an honorary silk (flag) for an indoor competition my senior year. They ended up with an odd number of girls so I rounded them out. We won, of course. ;) I didn't do college at all because even though they weren't bad, our h.s. band was really outstanding (if I do say so) and it would have most likely been a letdown.

That's such a classic Mo pose....can't believe you're a woodwind though.

Interesting. Did you think brass or percussion? I love the flute, but I have a feeling that my 10-year old self had a lot to do with that choice of instruments and I'm not certain that a teenage Mo would have picked the same.

However, I wanted to be Drum Major. I came pretty close to being the first female DM at my school. I don't know that any other girls have tried since me.

Hehehe....Brass - either a sousaphone or a trumpet.

I wasn't a band geek- I was a chorus nerd. (And yes, that's what we called ourselves. :D) However, I dated the head band geek- the drum major. Before we started dating, I was at a football game with some friends. During halftime, when his back was towards us, I was making all sorts of amusing comments about his bum, and talking about how cute he was. The middle-aged couple in front of us kept stealing glances at me. Cut to a few months later when we start dating. Imagine my shock when he introduced me to his parents. You, it was the middle-aged couple from the foot ball game. I prayed that they didn't recognize me. ;)

I was totally in LOVE with the DM when I was a sophmore. He was totally cute. I'm hoping he makes an appearance at this thing and that, many years later, he's still nice on the eyes. :P

You are so freaking cool. It'll be just like that movie with band guy with the deaf son that I can't remember the name of right now.

DUDE! I was the coolest kid in the school. LOLal;skfj;lkasdf

Mr. Holland's Opus! You know I cry when I watch that. It was just on Encore or something the other day. Funny thing is, is that Richard Dryfus kind of looks like my old band director in that movie. White hair and white mustash. If we have to play some craptastic song he wrote at this thing I might freak out. LOL

I have a friend who's watched that, swear to god, at least 200 times. He's an x-marine and he cries like a little girl at the end - it's his favorite movie ever.
