help with a fic

May 09, 2013 00:21

Silly question, but can anyone of my f-list can talk/write Old English? Or like Thor with "thy", "thou", "thee" ? You get the point.

Or point me to a web site? Or maybe fantasy books I can read?

help, fic

I'm pretty good with thees and thous. Between Shakespeare and the Bible and all.

You are? *hugs*

Well, it's an AU OUaT fic if you are familiar with the show. Pretty much someone goes into a portal and finds herself in a world much like Westeros from GoT. She finds out that she's not the only one from Earth, but the person is speaking Old English since he's been there for a while.

Ok, if it's thees and thous, that's more Elizabethan. Old English is a whole 'nother language. It's... okay, Chaucer is Middle English. If you check out this site, it'll let you toggle back and forth between Middle and Modern.

Old is Beowulf... I gather that's not what you need!

Beowulf is English? :P Oh man, where do I get myself into? But yeah, no Beowulf, please! I tried to read it, but had a mini panic attack.

I can barely write in modern English and now I'm going to have nightmares.
