Woman Within, which is the new name for the Lane Bryant Catalog, has several nice modest skirts available.  I purchased a nice navy twill a-line skirt from their clearance section and I love it....it even has pockets!  I have another order due to be delivered any day now with a similar corduroy skirt.  If you are looking for floor length and are ( Read more... )

A few years back, Lane Bryant and the catalog parted ways, and finally the catalog changed it's name to reflect the differentness. They aren't quite as hip as the actual LB store, but I'm impressed with the quality of the skirt that I bought (and seriously....pockets!)

Their sister store, Roaman's, has wonderful business/church/shabbos suits with long skirts. Most of the skirts do not have slits in them, and they are machine washable!

LOVE them. :-)

I was just about to mention Roamans & also Jessica London (they also own them too)

They start at size 12/14 & go up from there. I have bought a bunch of things from there as well as some skirts recently that are 37 inch long and perfect for me, as most skirts are too short - I am 5 feet 6 inches tall.

Here they are:

Or there's OneStopPlus, which combines all the catalogs together.

I'm 5'7", and my size varies between 12 and 14, depending on the manufacturer.

Talbots, Orvis, and Coldwater Creek have great stuff too, but it's very expensive. I look for them on Ebay and can often find them for really cheap.

It says plus-sizes, but all the brands on OneStopPlus (Woman Within, Roaman's, Jessica London) stock sizes that are not really plus-sized. Take a look at the measurements on the size charts; they have more of a range.

Yes Woman Within has some great stuff and when things go on clearance it is even better! I always do a search online for coupons before I buy and am able to find codes for further discounts.

The problem I have with the clothing from Woman Within is that a lot of their clothing is not pre-shrunk before manufacturing so it will shrink in the wash. This is bad for the really ample plus sized woman like myself. I always have to buy a size larger than actually needed.

Another good place for long skirts - 35" to 37" long - is http://www.holyclothing.com. The skirts go from small to 6x. Some of their other clothes are okay depending on your modesty level. I have two of their long sleeved dresses made from viscose. Super comfy and wonderful in summer.

that's good to know (about the shrinkage). I'm pretty round for my height, but still about a 18. I'll make sure to not dry these on heavy heat (or maybe just let them airdry)

I ususally dry my clothes on low heat and they still shrunk so air dry is probably the way to go.
