goatinamoat already suggested hats, so how about scarves tied in a way that still covers your neck? I do a bun thing with a long rectangular scarf that leaves the ends hanging down my back that covers my neck.

now see, that snood doesnt fit what *my* mind says... snood in my brain is a knitted or crocheted net item that you stuff your hair in and pin to stay in place.
