Headcovering suggestions with short hair?

May 07, 2009 16:25

I've been covering off and on for a couple years because of my own personal views on tzniut, but I want to begin covering on a more daily basis.  My problem is that my hair is currently at a collar length bob, and will be cut even shorter at the end of June (I'm losing my hair because of multiple pituitary hormone deficiencies).

Anyone have good ( Read more... )

When you say cover, do you need to cover all your hair or just your head? If the former, perhaps try a snood? They're a Christian site but www.garlandsofgrace.com do some nice ones. If you don't require all your hair to be covered, try a pleated headband - the kind made from seersucker-y fabric which you can stretch out for more coverage. Garlands of Grace have some of those as well, but I find that you can buy them from many places, such as Claire's.

Either is fine. On some level, covering it all will help catch the hairs that try to abandon ship during the work day (I'm outshedding my kitten right now), but I'll check out Garlands.

When I worked in an office, I lived in Parkhurst hats, which felt and looked very professional. I also wore scarves. If Christian-style snoods work for you, you might also try pretied scarves (I wear bandanna style preties for my work now.)

I'm guessing a sheitel is not an option.

Oh, I have like three of these:

(Though I got them at a cheaper site)

They can be rolled up more or less... I fold them up so there's a 1-2" band around them instead of the look in the pic - They look more like a beanie and less like this picture that way, since I didn't have as much hair to cover and wasn't trying to cover my hair fully anyhow.

I love them! They are cotton and are light enough to wear in pretty warm weather, too.

A sheitel is not cost effective at the moment, and it's already a very hot spring here in North Carolina. But Parkhurst seems to have some great hat and tichel options. Thanks.

What fantastic links, thanks for sharing! I never thought to look for hats at a sheitel site. It looks like these two sites are actually interconnected.

I keep my hair sheared down to about an inch (the longer it gets, the more obvious it is that my meds are making it fall out in patches), and I wear wide headbands at work and tichels everywhere else.

I have covered my hair with very short hair (boyish haircut). It was much harder than covering it at a longer length, which seems counterintuitive but is a common experience, I think. Other than a wig, the easiest things i've found are bandannas, hats or baseball caps.
