You have no idea how weird it is to see your friend's name in a review for a fanfic said friend wrote.

Until you realize it's a self-insert OC Labyrinth fic.

No, we just fav'd each other as authors back when we were both in high school together because she said she would beta for me (then bailed after the first paragraph of "Belief"), and I thought I'd revisit her stories.

Yes, it was bad. Very bad. I can't get past the second chapter. Want a link?? I need to share the agony.

Ouch, now that sucks. I've had betas do that before and it's never amusing.

One nice thing about getting into fanfic young is that you can lump all the embarrassment of OCs and self inserts and other badfic ideas with your other youthful indiscretions and blame it on the tumults of puberty or something. If I did that now, I would look back on it and be like, fuck, I was twenty, that's just awkward.

I haven't even committed to paper (er, word.doc) the oc's I'm planning for the future because I'm scared of an awkward/obvious mary-sue happening. I do not need that blood on my hands!

My friend posted a fanfic using an OC as the main character, who conveniently had the same name as her, and the other characters in the fic were horrible mangled. It was a very obvious self insert and I didn't make it very far in the fic.
