Not everyone, just a lot of us. Those monsters are apparently called 'hollows' and eat people's souls. So it might be a good day to stay inside, unless you have some magic power...?

The creatures are Hollows and dangerous to anyone without a reasonable level of spiritual power, and even then that's not necessarily a sure thing.

It is suggested that most people stay indoors until the matter has been dealt with.

It is in a sense, but the Hollows are real and quite able to inflict damage.
