It's hard to believe it's been five years already since David's death. In some ways it seems like yesterday. It's still painful, but we've learned to live with the pain fairly well. This is the first year we didn't go away. Yesterday we worked on a Habitat for Humanity house. Today we took the dog and went for a hike in the foothills. July 1

No parent should have to go through what you did. Even after all this time, David's life and death continue to affect others. I hope that sharing what you've shared over the years in his journal has helped you grieve and heal.

It is my hope that by keeping David's LJ somewhat updated that it might help someone. I share David's website with mental health therapists and researchers when I can. I spend many hours working for the Second Wind Fund (which pays for mental health counseling for youth at-risk for suicide in the Denver area) trying to keep other families from going where mine has.
I do believe in mental health therapy and made sure that my family went at least once. Three of us went regularly for several months. I still participate in occasional suicide survivor support groups.
I always encourage individuals that if they don't bond with their therapist that they try another therapist. You might try someone else as well. If you happen to be in the Denver area, the Second Wind Fund's website (www.thesecondwindfund.org) has therapist info listed under Counselors Corner.
