There are a couple of these photos I really like for their intimate quality.

Me too - there are a couple I am keeping in a special folder for, uh, things. ;)

Wasn't it excessively loud for ten year-old ears?

Hm, maybe. Although, I was right next to the speaker stack and didn't suffer any ill effect, so perhaps it wasn't proper rock star decibels.

Thank you! So am I. Having worried in my end-of-year round-up that nothing makes me excited any more, I've discovered that there is actually something that made me VERY excited :D

Oh, squee! I'm so glad you got to go! (Not a Cave fan but it's easy for me to imagine how I'd have felt if it had been one of my musical heroes. And actually I've never listened to any Nick Cave so I might like him for all I know...)

Yes! Just transpose Paul Simon, and I know you'll understand perfectly.

I think you'd like Nick Cave, from what I already know of your tastes. Because of the schism in his music that I mentioned in my post - ie, you can divide his work into beautiful, melodious love songs, and raucous, murderous noisefests, it'd be easy to be put off, especially if you only heard the early stuff.

My top recommendations, based on what I discern to be your taste, are The Boatman's Call, the Lyre of Orpheus, No More Shall We Part, or Nocturama.

Brought to you by the Nick Cave Advisory Panel ;)
