Writing n more writing

What is the measure of a really good writer?  Is it plot? Content? or perhaps just a bunch of random smut scenes thrown together labeled as a decent story?  The only one to know is the reader.  So, the question I pose to myself as I finish a story and post it to my page is this: is it going to be read and reviewed?  And will it be decent and ( Read more... )

I don't know if this helps, but I always try to write for myself, and not for other people. Now, granted, of course everyone wants feedback-- was this good/bad? did you enjoy it? do you feel it stayed true to the characters? (in the case of fanfic)-- but as you say, it can be really disheartening if you sit down to write and your mind automatically wonders what the reader will think and/or say (or not say ( ... )

Thank you for your "rambles",and you're right, I should write for myself and not worry about what others think. They did click on the story after all, so it obviously intrigued them enough to read more. I should feel happy they chose my story to read even if they end up disliking it.

I have learned quite a bit about writing since I began writing fanfiction just a few short months ago. I sort of fell into it and now, I can't imagine my life without. I've met so many wonderful people within the community that I otherwise never would have had the courage to chat with, you included of course.
