ETA: There have been at least two more attacks since I posted this entry this morning. :-<  Will be staying home.A car bomb went off this morning outside the Cairo Security Directorate, about 5.5 miles from our house, as the crow flies.  I heard the explosion, even with my earplugs in. At least 2 dead and 40 wounded. :(  We had an appointment with ( Read more... )

Oh boy. That is just terrible. I'm so sorry for everyone who was hurt and for the two who died, and I'm so relieved you were at home--but how frightening, to hear the explosion. I'm mad, too, that I haven't listened to the news and heard this.

… When is your due date? Any chance of your going back to France to give birth? … Any chance of your going back to France to stay?

Aw, don't be mad at yourself mnfaure January 24 2014, 07:30:56 UTC
I had just let the cat out onto the balcony to eat and use her litter box and had climbed back into bed, which is why I heard it, I think. We had a lot (for us) of rain and some thunderstorms mid-December (when you asked about the snow), so I thought, "Thunder?" But the rumble went on a bit long and was, I don't know, heavier(?). I lay there for a moment and then went outside to make sure the laundry I had left out overnight was not going to get soaked. The sky was cloudless, though, and I saw another lady standing out on her balcony, trying to figure out what was going on. :(

I'm due on or around 23 Feb. I don't think any airlines would let me fly at this point--unless there was an emergency--but no, I'm not planning on going back. Just reading up on what to do if a baby is born at home/in a car. :P

It is the anniversary of the first revolution this weekend, hence the trouble, but word is that it will last until the 11 of February, at least. :-

I'll keep praying for you. And Egypt.

I knew a woman who had her baby in the car. They got stuck in traffic on a bridge!

How was your first delivery? (I should go back and check.) Was it uneventful? In general, subsequent ones are easier...

Pretty fast mnfaure January 26 2014, 09:23:49 UTC
With Sprout, I had mild and well-spaced out contractions starting around 4 p.m. They got stronger and closer together at 8 p.m. but didn't seem enough for me to call the hospital. And my mil said, "Oh, it's not coming." ;) My water broke at 22:22 and Sprout was born 5h50m later. So, pretty fast. And I went from a 4 to an 8 in 30 minutes. My current ob-gyn said that I had a fast labor and used a term for it (meaning it wasn't really good), but it wasn't "precipitous" I don't think. I've heard that subsequent ones can be faster (true for you?), so she wants me to call her as soon as I start having contractions ( ... )

We'll do our best. I stay pretty close to home, but J is still going out and about (to his jiujitsu training, etc).
