Unholy tree

Perhaps I'm behind the times and this is something that is done a lot, but when I saw this Christmas tree, assembled bottom up, in a florist shop, it shocked me. I called it an "unholy" tree because it felt like seeing a crucifix upside down (I'm not Catholic, but the intention behind flipping the crucifix is what bothers me).  I'm probably weird ( Read more... )

It's kind of a pagan symbol, so it's not really "sacrilege" unless you're pagan I guess.

Yeah, "sacrilegious" was the first word that popped into my mind, too, but given the pagan nature of the symbol, it didn't fit. Neither did "un/holy" but I was at a loss for words. :P

Our "tree" this year kind of seems to have horns, looking a bit like a green Yule Goat.

That is so because the student friends of my older son wondered, could they construct a tree from branches discarded by the lumberjacks.

I like the recycled Yule Goat, too :) Non-traditional, but clever and sculptural.

Trees like that were all the rage a couple of years ago, for the space-saving reasons you suggest...and then they just weren't anywhere to be found. Probably for reactions just like yours.

Interesting! I imagined that perhaps one or three people/businesses had tried it, just to make a statement, but I would never have thought someone had tried to market them! O.O
