I hope I can. I think that before long I'm going to have to set it aside and work on something else while I do research on the side and let the facts and tidbits simmer. I keep plowing on, hoping to get the basis of the plot down, but I doubt I'll have a polished draft any time soon.

That it certainly is. I can't wait until some of the books I've ordered arrive. I'm writing in the dark now, and it is frustrating in a way that authoring fantasy works is not. Getting the detail right is a pain, and for the moment, it's a pain I can't do anything about. That constant chafe of feeling like I'm glossing is keeping me disconnected from the story, and that makes me sad.

I think that you're making fantastic progress, especially given the sickness and the leaky roof and the sh**ty floor and the general hideousness in January!

Yep, I'm definitely not down on myself. That would be ridiculous and counter-productive.
