Oh, how I hate Spring

Apparently today is the first day of Spring. I wouldn't care, except that with Spring comes hay-fever. Happens every year, and so for the next two or three weeks I'll be a horrible, snotty, red-eyed mess--unless I decide to take benadryl, in which case I'll be groggy and blank-faced for three weeks ( Read more... )

Don't take Benedryl unless you're planning on sleeping for awhile. Try Claritin or Claritin-D, they won't make you sleepy. Some people like Zyrtec, but it made me just as sleepy as if I'd taken Benedryl. If the regular kind doesn't work, try getting the D from behind the counter, or take it with the fake sudafed stuff they sell nowadays.

(Yes, I know my allergy meds. >_<)

Strangely, I can function at a low level with Benadryl. However, non-drowsy Sudafed kicks my ass into a coma. I am obviously not the person this medication is designed for--isn't human biology grand. I'm thankful for the info, and as I have not tried Claritin in any form, I may consider trying that stuff.

If you can't handle Sudafed (the real stuff, not the fakey stuff they sell off the shelf), then you should probably try the regular Claritin (or a generic, as it can be pricey) and not the Claritin-D. In this case, the D stands for Decongestant and not, as I originally assumed, Dracula.
