I almost don't believe it...

...but I've actually got a proper research experience placement with funding and everything!

Whoa.

EDIT: And please don't spoil it by telling me they're a two a penny. I'm in a good place right now.

research placement, physics, university

That's very exciting, mine really opened doors for me :) where/what/who/other words beginning with "wh"?

It will be at the University of Manchester (so I don't have to move anywhere!) and I'll be helping out with some stuff on motor proteins, investigating the statistics of intracellular particle trafficking. The nice thing is that I'll be working under one of my former professors who seems great (Dr Thomas Waigh), even if it does mean I'll have to do some MatLab tutorials etc after exams (for some reason, theoretical physics students aren't given the option of doing the MatLab course which is rather annoying...).

It's all so exciting!

Sounds pretty awesome.. I just looked him up - you're almost in the same field as me, except I work with lipid and DNA structures rather than protein-based ones. Still... looks awesome! I hope you enjoy it...

Ah Matlab, I've managed to avoid that thus far being much more experimental-based :)

It's a bit surreal considering I was so convinced I wouldn't get it, I very nearly didn't bother applying for it!

Isn't it funny how people always do that? Don't let anyone pee on your sandcastle. Congrats with the placement and the funding.

Thank you! Btw, this:

Don't let anyone pee on your sandcastle

is such a great expression. I plan to use it abundantly henceforth.

Thank you - I'm looking even more forward to it now!

To be honest, I know my f-list are a great bunch, it's just the 'little hater' in my head who sometimes needs to be taken down a peg or two...
