I definitely need to stop reading in the post-apocalypse genre for a little while. Had a bizarrely terrible dream this morning ( Read more... )

Yes, I'm not sure how well I'll do emotionally with reading zombie stuff today, even though I was previously looking forward writing some.

Some days are just not suited for emotionally triggering stuff. But what's the alternative? "Hmmmm, I was going to write zombie stuff, but I'll have to go with my back up, rainbow-riding unicorns" Not going to happen.

p.s. Never, ever, ever stand on a scale. I did the other day, and I won't be making that mistake again. When I rule the universe, scales will be outlawed, and replaced by that pair of pants that makes your ass look great. Those pants are a damn fine judge of fitness, the scale is not.

That's how I do it! Who cares what the scale says - it's what the PANTS say:)

Word. I'm a food nazi, too. It destroys me that the same people stuffing themselves with garbage are measuring their health on a scale.

Revolution! I want to overthrow the scale hegemony!

Heh. I know what you mean about post apocalyptic dreams. I had one in middle school so vivid, I walked around school the next day waiting for it to actually happen as it did in the dream. To this day I can recall that dream as well as ever.

Now that I know what kind of reading you were doing back then, I can see why!

But really, I had some freaky dreams a-la post-apocalypse at that age, too. One of which I couldn't forget if I tried. Is it something specific to that phase of life, you think?

You know, I don't know. I have a handful of singular dreams (only dreamed once) that are very vivid: that one, one from college, and another one that I must have been about 5 or 6 years old at the time. I have another set of dreams that recur regularly so I know them well, not so much because they're so vivid but because of their familiarity. Dreams are funny animals.

Your dream, while disturbing, sounds fascinating. WHEN you go back to post-apocalypse genre try The Road or Swansong.

If you want something FUN to read, try The Magic Thief. It's a young adult book and I reviewed it on my journal recently.
Have you read Snow Flower and the Secret Fan? It's about 18th century China and about the inequality of women at that time. Goes into the foot-binding in extreme detail.

The Scale: Muscle weighs more than fat. You are developing more muscle, so YES, your jeans are a better gauge of your "weight".

How is your Bear?

I read The Road as soon as it came out. It was about as grim a book as I think exists.

I read your review of The Magic Thief and it sounds wonderful.

And oooooh, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan sounds right up my alley! Thank you!

Mister Bodie bear has made a very unexpected recovery. The vet was in shock when we took him in on Monday. He has a large cancerous growth on his side, but at this point he is so spry, agile, and alert that we are just really thankful. Chip likens this to when the pinball game is over and then you get another ball. Bodie is living on "bonus time". We expect little, and are grateful for every day he keeps going.

Life is sometimes so surprisingly kind, when you least expect it.

So glad he is doing well!
The growth is nothing they can remove?
Is he getting any meds for it?

Well, you see...the thing is that he has tons of these "fatty cyst" type tumors, and they are massive. Like grapefruit to football size! And let's face it, he's old, and probably won't last all that much longer.

We adore our vet, and he basically said that as long as he's not in pain there is no real reason to do anything about the tumors, benign or otherwise.

If you ever want a smoothie recipe that is out of this world (much like unicorns), let me know..

A scale is kind of useless in my opinion. Muscle weighs more than fat, and a body's composition of lean muscle v. fat is better measured by measuring tapes and/or fat analyzers. Another thing that grates on my nerves: height/weight charts.

Congrats on that triathalon, btw. I'm a bit behind in my commenting.. that's a great accomplishment :)

Thanks! Height/weight charts are stupid.
Incidentally, the woman who won the triathlon was NOT thin, and NOT cut. She looked like a heavyset woman in her 30's, and is clearly in better shape than all of us!

I ALWAYS want new smoothie recipes. Bring it on!
