So, anyone else as surprised as I was to discover that Thom Yorke just released a solo album of electronica in the style of Kid A? Heck, I bought the last 3 Radiohead albums on the day of release, and I didn't even know this one had come out 'til 2 weeks after release. Anyone else wondering why there was no publicity machine for this?

i want that!, music

It was leaked on the internets early in June and I have been listening to it ever since. It is sweet. "Atoms for Peace" and "Analyse" are better than half the stuff on Hail to the Thief. "Black Swan" is delicious.

I don't know how music companies think--maybe with a new Radiohead album on the way they didn't want to blow their load? Maybe Thom Yorke had a dream in which he would lose his powers if he was scheduled to appear on Letterman?

Does seem odd, doesn't it? I heard bits on NPR a few weeks ago, and he has a Myspace, but that's all. I haven't heard the whole album yet, though, and I'm dying to! I think that would seriously be my ultimate definition of financial success - being able to buy whatever cds I wanted, as soon as I knew I wanted them!

...well, maybe also seeing concerts, heh. Although some concerts are so damned expensive I'd probably boycott them just on principle!

You know, I find concerts so loud, and for the most part mixed so bloody badly (admittedly, I have only a small sample to draw from, but still) that I shy away from them. I really need to pick up some high fidelity earplugs some time.

I think my financial success definition is going to be being able to afford a house, so I'm a while away from that. But certainly being able to shell out on what you want, when you want it is very pleasant.

I'd heard nothing about it 'til I got the iTunes weekly email update thingy. I haven't bought it yet, but if it is anything like Kid A then I'm so there.
