Blake seems like such a gentleman (and I have a thing for gentleman.) He won the coin toss and then asked Jordin what she wanted - maybe not a smart move, but he's so very sweet.

He really is a gentleman (and I have a thing for them, too plus I think it's a good thing to have a thing for!). His momma and daddy raised him right. He's like the ultimate secure, sensitive guy to me. It wasn't a smart move as far as the competition, but I think it was a smart move in terms of karma and having more and more people know what a good person he is. There have been times this season when he was just so darned good that I actually started crying! [/embarrassed]

Coin toss?

At the end of the Final 3 results show, Ryan Seacrest flips a coin and the winner gets to choose whether they will go first or second during the F2 performances. Blake won the coin toss and when asked whether he wanted to sing second or first, turned to Jordin and said, "I don't care. Do you want to go first?" Jordin said no, so she got to sing second, which is usually considered to be a major advantage. And as far as I know, that was the first time the coin-toss winner ever gave up that advantage.

I have a question. I've only seen one other season of American Idol, and it was last season. At the finals last year, Taylor Hicks and Katharine McPhee did not sing the same song--they each had a song that was kind of tailored to them and their strengths, so I was more than a little surprised that they made Blake and Jordin sing the same song, especially as song that was so obviously tailored to fit Jordin and to kind of make Blake look like an ass, imo. It totally felt rigged to me. So, I guess what I'm asking is, do they normally have them sing the same song, and last season was the anomoly, or was this a totally rigged thing??

They've handled this different ways in different seasons, so it's hard to tell but considering the way the rest of this season and the judges' comments last night went down, I'd go with rigged. Poor guy never had a chance, and from what I have heard, the rigging started three years ago when Jordin was told by Nigel Lythgoe to spend the next three years working with vocal coaches and try out this season.

Did you see the grossed-out looks on Blake's friends' faces when he sang that song? It was all kinds of wrong song for him, and at least the judges granted him that, though Randy really pissed me off when he said that she'd mopped the floor with Blake. Well, I'd like to see Jordin to a Maroon 5 song better than Blake, or a Madonna song! You know Blake would whip her ass on a Madonna song, but that Whitney-like bullshit they made him sing last night was just pathetic. It actually really pissed me off.

I think I was focusing too much on Blake to notice his friends' looks, but I imagine they were pretty similar to my own. I honestly thought he took something that was (I agree) all kinds of wrong for him and pretty much whipped it into something tolerable. ITA about Jordin attempting Maroon 5 or Madonna or for that matter, anything contemporary. We saw what a nightmare she made of real, popular, contemporary songs. I was pretty pissed at the end, too. I tried to channel it into voting a million times! We'll see how that works out, but I'm prepared for the worst as far as who officially wins this thing.

I'm starting to develop a theory, though, based on how unhappy and frustrated he looked last night and how much happier I'm hearing he is in interviews this morning, and spoilerish speculation I've heard for tonight's show. I think the minute he knew he was saddle with that song, he knew he'd lost and was okay with that. I'm hoping Jordin has to sing that song from last night again and Blake(whited out for spoilers) gets to ( ... )

hahaha, that reaction shot is priceless!! they all look so pained. i really hope blake does get to sing one of his own songs--he can truly shine then.

The reaction shot is the best!! Except I've seen one that also includes Sanjaya, LaKisha and Sligh and it's even funnier. Every single one of them looks like they're thinking, OMG this is the Worst. Thing. Evah!!! *snort*

We'll both hope for him tonight. Have you heard any of his originals? Have a favorite? No way will they let him sing an unexpurgated version of She Loves the Way tonight, but he might get away with a changed up version of it, or maybe Emotional Waterfalls, and yay he can use the vocoder tonight and loop his vocal entendres under his singing!!!

Hee! I was all sad but the more I think about it, even though he won't win tonight could be completely awesome!

LOL!! well, i'm glad they all feel that way. they're probably angry on blake's behalf.

no, i haven't heard any of his songs! but what you say sounds great, and i think you're right, it should be a good show even if jordin wins. hmm, i really hope that AI won't overlap with the lost season finale tonight...

Hee! I think they are, especially Chris Rich who was clearly there to cheer his honey on. ;)

You should definitely search youtube for Blake Lewis and/or Bshorty and check out some of his performances. He really is great. I'm not just saying that because I'm a swooning fangirl (even though I admit I am one).

Unfortunately, the AI finale does overlap with the Lost finale. :( But the Lost creator (producer? not sure) is a big AI fan and he's on record saying nothing happens in the first hour of Lost tonight. I don't believe him, but I think it's hilarious he was quoted saying that. You'll probably have to tape one and watch the other.

I had to rewind to that reaction shot over and over! OMG! I bet Melinda is just horrified today. LOL

I HATE what they did to Blake. It was incredibly unfair. But I'm betting they never expected Blake to make the finals to begin with.

Hee! Poor Melinda! I know she's thinking "Oh, I did not look like that ... did I?" I love her, and I hope she's able to laugh about it.

What they did to Blake was completely unfair and I agree, they didn't expect him to make it that far, though it sure was easy for them to throw him under the bus and give Jordin the win. *sulks*

You know, though, it's not always the winners who go on to better stuff. The first Australian Idol, there was a really sweet rock with a teeny dash of coutnry singer boy and a more urban/rock/stuff I don't like boy.

The urban/rock guy won. And has a career.

But so does the rock/country boy. And he's a better singer, in my opinion. He's even from around here (not my town, but this general area) so that rocks a lot. We (friends and I) even got to see him in concert last year.

It's still sad, but it's possible to go on.

I completely agree, and I think Blake will have a wonderful career whether or not he wins. He's amazingly talented and already has a lot of connections. This just got him more exposure and more connections. That's really cool that you got to see rock/country boy and I hope he keeps on doing well. And I hope Blake does too. At least I feel good knowing the runner up in Season 2 and 4th place finisher in S5 are by far outselling the winners from their seasons. Considering Jordin's lack of charisma, performance and singing limitations and not-star-quality body, I'm certain Blake will be the real winner.
