If there's a smart record producer out there, they'll round up 2-4 other cute guys to go with Sanjaya and aim them at the pre-teen market. My 11-y.o. admits he's not the best singer, but she *likes* him because he's *cute*.
It's really too bad they can't just do that now. It would be a winning situation for everyone. I'm worried this show is eventually going to suck the self-confidence out of the poor kid, and he's really not all that bad for what he is. I'm willing to bet the kids in Menudo and a lot of other boy bands weren't the world's greatest singers. They AI folks would have been smarter to not let him through to the top 24 and then offer him a separate deal. If they're allowed to do that, and I'm not sure they are.
Yeah, I have to remind myself every week that Brandon's the other backup singer. He really turned You Can't Hurry Love into a boring, nothing song and that's hard to do. He may very well be gone this week, though it does seem to be a tight race according to dialidol, and I believe them. There was just so much meh. Sanjaya desperately needs to be elsewhere, but he won't be.
Brandon was TERRIBLE. I am shocked at how far and fast he has fallen. And Stephanie's song choice was wrong, wrong, wrong!
ITA with almost everything you said, although it worried how much the re-arrangement highlighted Blake's singing limitations. I do think he has a good voice, but he didn't with this song, and neither did Chris R. We also liked Chris S's re-arrangement (it grew on us by the end), and it did do a nice job of showing off his tone.
Although, really, all the boys were a major disadvantage with Diana Ross Week (THANK YOU, I could not agree more on not liking her) -- I thought it was pretty cruel of the producers to start off the Top 12 with this particular theme week. They're already weaker, at least give them a theme everyone can find a song in.
I think Brandon should be the one to leave (since it won't be Sanjaya), but I am worried about some of the other boys and Gina and Stephanie.
It was unfair to the guys to start with Diana Ross week! But then they seem to be really stacking the deck against the guys in every way they can this season. This just makes me vote for them more. *g*
