I'm doing a little asking around over the next few days for local lawyers opinions on Harriet Miers. Until I have a better feel for her, these are my initial reactions

I actually saw several pundits on various news shows, yesterday, opining that Dubya would nominate her for the very reasons (and combinations thereof) that you site here.
My problem with her is that she has NO experience on the bench at all; on the other hand, sitting on civil and criminal trials isn't the same ballpark as sitting as a justice deciding a case like Brown vs. Topeka Board of Education either, so I'm not sure the lack of practical "being a judge" experience even matters.
She is absolutely his crony. No doubt about that, at all. And he is known for rewarding his loyal cronies. But, the good news is, she's actually an intelligent, competent woman, as far as I know. I just don't know how she feels about some hotbutton issues and about the way the Supremes should function.
Yeah, I think it's at least a combination of the first two and the first part of the third. I just tend to think that he wouldn't have picked her if it wasn't clear to him, at least through personal interaction, that she agreed with him on all the major issues. And how the rest of us are going to be able to figure out what exactly she really thinks is a bit trickier...
