Rain, rain, go away

I spent Saturday up in Door County, celebrating a friend's birthday. We stopped at a local festival, and had the booyah, which was excellent (no cabbage!) but why in the world would you schedule a booyah fundraiser in August? But then, you can find booyah in Door County every weekend from April to November. Them Belgian's are crazy ( Read more... )

I counted it a moral victory that I waited to this morning to check the Internet after a whole day away
I would, too, on the order of resisting chocolate.

It's funny you were just reading about mountain climbing, because I just finished a really excellent short about mountain climbing with an alien : "On K2 with Kanakaredes" by Dan Simmons. He's one of my favorite authors. His description of conditions above the "death zone" (8,000 meters) just makes it sound like insanity for anyone to make the attempt at all, even if "it's there."

And there in lies my problem. No great goal that helps humankind is achieved and it just seems so selfish to risk your life at something so meaningless.

And it has finally stopped raining, so I think I'm going to grab my chance to walk the dogs!
