Mildred Loving (nee Jeter) is probably not a household name - and that is unfortunate. She was an African American woman, in love with a white man. Both lived in Virginia where interracial marriages were still considered against the law - the infamous Racial Integrity Act of 1924. Wow, I hadn't heard of her either. She would have been an inspiration to me if I had known. With stupid laws like that, I might not have ever known my two brothers, and one of them might not even exist.

I knew who she was. It's amazing to me how many people don't know that happened in 1967. I think the assumption is that it was a lot earlier.
