SimStoCreMo 2014

This month is SimStoCreMo.  My goal was to finish chapter I of Penelope's Journey, since it is close to finished and I just need a little push to finally complete it.  Since I decided to divide what was originally one installment into two shorter parts, I would have to complete and post three updates.  I had a lot of the pictures already taken from the last time I worked on it, so it should have been relatively easy to complete, but I wasn't really on it this month, so at this point I think I will probably only end up finishing and posting two of the three updates, if I keep on it for the two and a half days that are remaining.

Here's how the month went for me . . .

Week one, I did next to nothing towards my goal.  I opened my save on blogger a few times.  Wrote maybe one new sentence (that didn't save) and gave it some thought.  I had decided to change the point of view the last time I was working on it, so I was trying to figure out how to rewrite parts to match up with the new direction.  I didn't do much, partly because of family reasons.  My son's been having trouble at school, if he wasn't sent home for behavior problems, it was for illness or injury.  It's been a rough few weeks . . . I had the brilliant idea to borrow A Game of Thrones from the library, so I spent my downtime that week reading instead of writing.

I thought I could play catch up during week two, because it was my spring break, but I actually ended up working more over spring break than I normally do and when I wasn't actually at work I was catching up on grading and getting my midterm grades turned in.  Towards the end of the second week I started writing.  I decided to go back to the original point of view (sort of, I do kind of switch I bit.  I hope that's not a bad thing to do, since I'm writing in third person throughout anyway.) and I really got on a roll writing.  Within two days (or maybe less) I completely wrote out the text for the next two installments.

Week three was stressful.  My son's sixth birthday was that week and my ex and his mother were making party planning extra stressful on top of just being busy getting things ready.  By the end of the week I was drained.  If I did anything this week it was to type out what I'd written for I-X.  I may have started getting involved in playing a new challenge, either during this week or into the next.

Week four was my son's spring break, so I didn't expect to get much done during this week.  I spend the end of week three and beginning of week four vegging out, playing my new challenge hood.  My son did spend extra nights at his dad's, but I didn't get much done except typing up I-X (unless I did that during week three, I don't remember now.  Last night I finally reviewed what I had so far for I-X, went into the game and took a few extra pics I needed, read over it a few times and posted it.

Hopefully tonight after the kiddo has gone to bed I can type up I-XI and see which pictures I still need.  I think I already have most of them, but I know there was at least one section I wasn't satisfied with yet.  If I can get those picture taken tonight I can surely get I-XI posted tomorrow or Monday.  That just leaves I-XII which I'm sure I'm not going to get done.  I haven't written any of it yet.  The organization of it and what I will or won't include aren't completely set in my mind yet.  I think I have some pictures taken for it, but they aren't organized so I have no idea how many are useable or how many more I might need.  My boy has been wanting a lot of my attention lately and I have tests to write and papers to grade for my students before Tuesday, so it's not going to get done at this point and I'm not going to push everything else aside to push myself to complete it.  So now, I'm shooting for 2/3 complete.
