I couldn't figure out whether he was supposed to be a likeable protagonist or a distinctly unlikeable one!

Oh, I forgot to say that part of the reason it was unclear was that many of the amazon reviewers (the professional ones, not the regular readers) seemed to favor Artemis as a character over Holly. I saw her described as bland/boring. I didn't see it that way at all!

I assumed 'Eoin' was a female, just because that name spelling looked so girly to me.  Shows how much I know.  It's pronounced 'Owen' and is a man.

And I assumed that "Artemis" was a woman; after all, it's a goddess' name.

Perhaps the author is confused.

I went through a phase where I wanted to read fantasy books and children's books while I was pregnant. My favorite was The Mists of Avalon. I totally was going to name our baby after Morgaine and use it as a middle name if I had a girl ( ... )
