Read "The Lymond Chronicles" by Dorothy Dunnett, and her pre-quel books written after but set before, "House of Niccolo" or her one-shot about the real historical person who was MacBeth. Enough good writing, humor, sex and drama to keep you busy for MONTHS.

I've read all of them several times apiece.

Start with "Game of Kings".

They sound interesting, but at the moment I'm pretty sure I'm looking for science fiction and they sound historical.

Although, any excuse for a Hephaistion icon....
