On the Freedom to Offend an Imaginary God by Sam Harris

I was watching Bill Maher tonight and he quoted Sam Harris saying "We are free to burn the Qur’an or any other book, and to criticize Muhammad or any other human being." Bill Maher added, "without apology".

Thought it was an interesting quote and I found the whole blog post it was from. Bold is mine.

That was a good episode of Bill Maher last night - and Sam Harris's comments ring true in my mind, for the most part. I think we Westerners, i.e non-Muslims, have such a fear of offending Muslims because we know of the likely reactions, ranging from being called an "Infidel" down to being killed as punishment for speaking out. It's being PC to a special level, and I thought some of the lukewarm responses out of the White House and State Department were shamefully PC. We don't even know for sure what happened in Benghazi even a week later, so don't be so quick to fall over your own feet to be apologetic, folks.

Thanks for posting this!

I have to admit I am sick to death of atheists, Mormons and Muslims. I am, however, in favor of a government that is free of religious influence and obligation and does what is right for all its people. I am also in favor of freedom to express how much I despise the Mormon religion and Islam with about the same disgust without fear of death.
