Needing Ski Wisdoms

Yesterday was my first ski run of 2011-2012. Embarrassing, I know, but I got sick during Christmas and I’ve been busy since then. I just now realized that my skis are in their ninth season. They seem to be holding up fine, but I imagine they don’t have too many more years left.

I'm assuming you know that longer skis are more stable, and shorter ones are easier to maneuver. The trends these days are for short, fat skis with extra-raised tips on both ends, and of course, elliptical. Short because technology of manufacture allows shorter skis to be pretty stable, fat because it lets you float on soft stuff and it doesn't interfere with normal performance as much as you'd think, and raised tips in back aren't just for going backwards as they help keep the tail ends of the ski from getting snagged in the snow.
You ever try demo skis? My old man and I were at Jackson Hole. You could rent a demo ski, turn it in at any time for a different demo ski, and they offered to waive the cost of rental if you chose to buy it. Not a bad way to try skis out! Maybe a hill by you has a similar program?

No, I suppose I should do a demo day thing when replacement time comes. My dad did demos for over a year before finally settling on a pair.
