Characters: the 8th doctor, Romana

He wondered if he should have asked Romana to teach him how to manipulate one's regeneration. Perhaps he would be ginger by now if he had. Romaan was lost in the time war however and his hearts ached for her smile every thime he thought about her and his beloved planet. She had died a hero's death, on the front lines of the never-ending battle.

The doctor's eyes watching her from afar. He saw her fall on her knees, her mouth agape while he was at the other side of the battlefield and knew she would not regenerate this time. He stared as her body seemed to move in slow motion and eventually hit the floor. It was then that he was sure he had no choice left in the matter. He alone could end the time war now, in the most horrible way ever.

They had talked about it late at night, when comforting each other through the losses they had endured. She made him promise not to hesitate and give the Daleks no time or chance to win the war. It wasn't just Gallifrey that would perish at their hands if they won, she had reasoned. He ran across the battlefield and rushed towards Romana's still body. When he reached her, he held her in his arms and told her he wouldn't break his poromise to her.

Picking up her lifeless body, he ran towards his most faithful companion, of all people, Romana truly deserved a proper time lord burial. He placed Romana on his bed and went to fulfill her last request. The end of Gallifrey. The end of the biggest war that raged through the universe like a wild fire. The sudden erruption in his head of screams, pleads and tears brought him down to his knees. His fingers grasped onto the controls of the TARDIS as his head exploded in pain.

Tears fell down his facea s he knew he would never again feel the rumors of his fellow time lords in the back of his head. No longer would he be able to enjoy those slopes of red grass under his feet, see the twin suns rise in the south and hear the silver trees sing. Gritting his teth, the doctor battled the dudden silence in his head.
