A new job

Today I have an interview for Analog Devices, a micro electronics company. I was originally scheduled for an interview last week but ended up getting horribly lost. (went the wrong way on Mass ave. during rush hour)
But the man interviewing me was very understanding. :)
So, it's tonight, and I won't get lost (I'm not tempting the fates so nobody get ( Read more... )

Good luck! Temp to hire is pretty common and is actually a version of what I'm doing right now.

Yeah, its a little nerve wracking, but I think I'll be much happier so, it's worth the risk. And your right that is the way of things, for many companies.

Good luck!

I spent a year as a temp at Liberty Mutual. All the little old ladies who sat around me were often seen rushing around, trying to find job slots they could put me into. I did everything from secretarial stuff to underwriting before they eventually hired me full-time.

Then, a year later, I bailed on them to take this job at UNH.

I have a good feeling about it. If I work hard and they like me I should be fine. :)
I just hope I adjust to the rotating work week.

Yeah, that bit sounds kinda funky. I had enough trouble adjusting to my current Tues-Sat schedule.

Years ago I did a video for a company, Circadian Technologies, that does consulting for companies on this sort of flex scheduling. The data showed that while the rotating schedule took some getting used to by the workers, they liked it because it gave them the opportunity to have nights/weekends/weekdays off at various times and regular intervals, rather than just being stuck working the dreaded 3rd shift all the time, or working 9-5 Monday-Friday like most everyone else, and having to run around on the weekends to get all the errands done when everyone else is doing theirs. Working fewer, longer days with days off in between really improved quality of life in many ways. Hopefully it'll work for you too.
